A Merry Gathering At The Senior Center Annual Holiday Party
The Newtown Senior Center hosted its 27th Annual Holiday Party at Michael's At The Grove in Bethel on Thursday, December 8.
The space was decorated with a large Christmas tree and red and white linens on the tables and chairs. People talked with friends at tables, signed up for raffles for baskets with assorted items, and danced, before the food was served.
DJ Big Daddy, Sean McKee, of James Daniel Entertainment provided music and entertainment.
A buffet was offered, and Michael's At The Grove owner Linda Shakro said the food options included top sirloin, walnut and apple stuffed chicken, and penne with broccoli and roasted red peppers. Ms Shakro said Michael's At The Grove has hosted the party for the last three years.
Newtown Senior Center Director Marilyn Place offered a toast before everything was served.
"Accept my hearty good wishes for a season of calm and cheer," Ms Place said near the start of her prepared toast. "... May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door. May this season be rich with laughter of friends, with closeness of family, whose love never ends.
"May you have balance and harmony, may your heart be content, may your spirits be light, and you memories be bright."
Ms Place toasted to the old friends and new, and she said this time of year has many reflecting. She thanked all the Newtown Senior Center teachers, volunteers, and family.
She finished her toast by wishing all joy and happiness for the season and throughout the year.
As the food was served, some people ventured back out on the dance floor, like Alice Elliott and Dick Ahlstrom, who glided hand in hand across the floor.
