How To Work A Luminaria

To the Editor,

Every year it amazes me that people who put out the candle bags along Main Street and Ram Pasture can't seem to do it correctly. Drive down the street and bags are either parallel to the street or perpendicular. I'm going to assume that the purpose of the candles are so that motorists or people viewing the bags, either looking up or down the street, would actually see the lighted candle. If the bag is placed parallel nobody can, but anyone standing on the sidewalk at that point can see it! Seems like a lot of effort for something not done properly.

While this year it rained spoiling the lighted candle aspect, many times in the 14 years I've lived here I've driven home from work that night and seen great big darkened patches where the lights are turned the wrong way.

A little instruction may be in order when home owners receive their candle bags.

Just my opinion, but when done correctly it looks amazing. More so when it's snowing.
