Elizabeth Catherine (Schmidt) Thomas, 94, died December 15 at Masonicare at Newtown. She was the widow of Frederick R. Thomas, Sr, whom she had married in 1945, in Yonkers, N.Y. She was born in New York City, November 2, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth C. (McGarry) and George R. Schmidt.

Mrs Thomas lived previously in Yonkers, Bethel, and Newtown with her daughter and family. She was a nurse’s aide at St John’s Riverside Hospital, in the maternity ward, until her retirement.

Her children and their spouses, Jane and Kenneth Grauer of Newtown, Margaret and Frederick Peloso of Elmsford, N.Y., and Frederick and Sandra Thomas of Yonkers; her son-in-law Frank DiSciorio of Bayville, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren survive Mrs Thomas. In addition to her husband and parents, a daughter, Geri DiSciorio; and a brother, George R. Schmidt, predeceased her.

The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to the nurses, caregivers, and hospice at Masonicare “for everything they do daily, not only for us, but everyone.”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate a stuffed animal, simple puzzles, playing cards, etc, to Masonicare at Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road, Sandy Hook, that can be enjoyed by Masonicare residents.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, Saturday, December 20, from 2 to 4 pm. Placement of her ashes in Ferncliif Cemetery, Hartsdale, N.Y. , will be private.
