Fill The Bus: Winter Outerwear & Food Drive Friday & Saturday
Newtown Bus 17 will be at Stop & Shop parking lot this Friday, December 16, from 4:15 until 8 pm, collecting winter outerwear and nonperishable items for Newtown Social Services. The collection will continue from 8 am until 4 pm on Saturday, December 17. LeReine Frampton, James Tomasseti, and Denise Buckley started the drive last weekend.
âThis is the perfect opportunity to clean out your coat closet and help out your fellow Newtowners,â said Ms Frampton. âWe realize that these are tough economic times for everyone and appreciate your help with this worthwhile cause.â
Stop by Friday evening and visit with LeReine Frampton or Kristie Genc. Those who stop by on Saturday will be greeted by Kate Maki (Bus #31), Joan Baumgart (#76), Maryellen Sideleau (#27), Marsha Moskowitz (#30), Violet Mayo (#28), Jim Tomasseti (#10), Kathy Smith (#24), Phyllis Page (#1), or Denise Buckley (#11).Â
The food pantry has a shortage of daily use items, especially soups, canned pasta and other lunch items. Soap, detergent and toilet paper, for example, are not covered by food stamps.
There are many more citizens requiring the help of the food pantry.
âWe need to work together and help each other through these tough times so we will still be together during the good ones,â said Ms Frampton. âMerry Christmas and may it be a Happy New Year for all.â
