WATERBURY â After completing the first ever series of Continuing Education Unit lectures in Equine Husbandry, these very successful courses will start again at Post University in Waterbury next month.
The courses are sponsored by the schools Equine Department.
Several enthusiastic horse owners have completed the full series over the past year and a half and will be awarded their certificates later this month. Some comments from people completing the courses include âA series of courses no existing or new horseperson should miss â well worth the time and money,â and, âas a horse owner, I still managed to learn new things with every class â great information.â
This is an opportunity for horse lovers and owners who wish to get more knowledge on correct horse care. These CEU courses can be taken in any order and are open to anyone interested â no pre-requisites are required. They will run for eight weeks, three hours per week in the evening and participants can earn CEU credits or take the courses for personal enrichment.
The first course in the series of six â Basic Horse Care â will run from January 19 through March 6, 6:30 to 9:20 pm, on the Post campus, exit 17 off I-84.
As many people know, it is easy to find someone to teach riding, but much harder to acquire the necessary knowledge to keep a horse in good health. These courses will address this need as they cover the necessary information horse ownersâ require.
Basic Horse Care will cover such topics as Feeding and Nutrition, Exercise and Conditioning, Evaluating Hay, Stable Routine, Parasites, Vaccination Protocols, and Safety Procedures. Following this course will be Stable Management I and II, Equine Anatomy, Equine Health, and Horse Ownership.
To earn CEU credits the cost is $500 but, if no credit is required, the cost is $350. To register or for more information, call the Equine Management Department at Post University at (203) 596-4631 or e-mail CBaker@post.edu or MMacDonald@post.edu.
