Still A Small Town

To the Editor:

On Tuesday afternoon, December 6, I was involved in an auto accident in front of the Citgo gas station on Route 25 in Newtown. I want to take this opportunity to personally thank all of the wonderful people who came to my aide and tended to me medically. To Dana and Pat Happel who were my EMTs, to Richie Prasauckas who drove the ambulance, and to Blaine Balmforth who attended me in the ambulance — thank you so very much. You were calm, competent, efficient, and actually funny at that incredibly stressful time. Thank you, too, to the police and fire department staff who responded.

People often say that Newtown is still a small town, despite the huge growth in population and housing over the last 23 years that I have lived here, and now I have to agree. I was amazed that I either knew, or had a connection to, everyone who helped me last Tuesday. It is a small town of people who are willing to help you. I thank the community for that. I also thank all of my friends who have offered to help in anyway, or offer kind thoughts during my recuperation. Thank you Shari, Brenda, Doris, Dick, and especially to Allan for all that you have had to put up with over the past week.
