OâConnorâs 24-point effort offset an equally masterful 21-point effort by Jeff DiNicola of the Devils.
In travel action, the girlsâ eight-grade squad remained undefeated with wins over Ridgefield and Bethel.

Girls 8th
Newtown 32, Ridgefield 13 â Jennifer Daily and Ally Modzelewski combined for 14 points to lead Newtown to the win. Kristen Errico chipped in four points and was strong off the boards while Meghan Bridges played strong defense for the locals.
Newtown 46, Bethel 29 â Jennifer Daily, Kate Bowen and Sara Kelley combined for 28 points as the Hawkeyes improved to 4-0 with a win over Bethel. Kait Marsden, Nicole Elias and Lyndsey Burns each chipped in six points.
Girls 7th
Newtown 27, Bethel 13 â Maggie Donohue and Colleen Cunningham combined for 14 points to lead Newtown to the win. Cunningham also grabbed 10 rebounds as Alex Grant and Christie Iorfino provided solid perimeter play.
New Milford 24, Newtown 21 â KellyAnne Brophy scored six points, but Newtown fell to New Milford. Chelsea Gray and Sam Whitley had solid games on the boards.
Boys 6th
Newtown 48, Norwalk 28 â A strong defensive effort by Josh Barrett, Taylor Steimle and Dan Gallagher helped Newtown overcome a slow start in a win over Norwalk. Kyle Wilcox was strong off the glass and Trey Trudell powered the offense.
Newtown 58, Danbury 56 â Austin Bonadio, Kevin LeBlanc and Dan Gallagher controlled the ball as Will Fletcher, Eric Samuelson and Mason West were strong on the defensive side and snapped up a quantity of rebounds. Anthony Beraducci had a solid floor game. Dan Gallagher sank a pair of late free throws to put the locals ahead for good.
Boys 5th
Newtown 53, Easton 32 â David Gerics and Conner Quinn combined for 18 points as Newtown opened the season with an easy win over Easton. Reid Schmidt and Nick Gerbo each contributed six points and Pieter Martino added four to round out the scoring. Sam Ashey ruled the boards with 12 rebounds while Gavin Scallon and Schmidt grabbed another five rebounds each. Dan Hebert was a ball hawk on defense, coming up with five steals.
Bethel 45, Newtown 37 â Bethel survived a furious comeback bid by the Hawks to pull out an exciting win at the Reed School gym. Sam Ashey (10 points, eight rebounds), Conner Quinn (11 points), Dan Hebert (six points) and Jake Feinstein (four points) provided the offensive fireworks for the home team. Sean Elliott played a nice overall game with three points and two steals and Gavin Scallon was a dominating force under the rim with eight rebounds.
Trumbull 50, Newtown 30 â The Hawks fell behind early to St. Theresaâs of Trumbull and couldnât mount a second half comeback run in this fast paced contest. Reid Schmidt (six points, six rebounds) and Gavin Scallon (five points, five rebounds) had good all-around games for the Hawks. Jake Feinstein and Pieter Martino chipped in with four points each and Wyatt Depuy had three.
Newtown 51, New Fairfield 17 â Conner Quinn scored 10 points as the Hawks ended a two-game skid with a rout of New Fairfield. Wyatt Depuy (six points), Dan Hebert (six points, six steals) and Nick Gerbo and David Gerics (four points and two steals each) led a balanced scoring attack. Sean Elliott came back from the disabled list with an inspired effort, contributing three points and two steals in a gutsy performance.

Junior Boys
Knicks 46, Hawkeyes 34 â Eric Thornberg and Danny White combined for 23 points to power the Knicks to the win. Brendan Blawie and Ken Gottshalck played well. For the Hawkeyes, Tucker Schmidt canned 10 points while Alex Miller grabbed nine rebounds. Vince Lafrancesca dished off five assists and Tom Mascher was solid on defense.
Huskies 45, Red Devils 40 â Kyle OâConnor poured in 24 points and Mikey Tobin grabbed 11 points as the Huskies slipped past the Red Devils. For the Devils, Jeff DiNicola canned 21 points as Eric McCabe grabbed seven boards. Tom Murphy and Kyle Packer had strong floor games.
Deamon Deakins 50, Jaspers 24 â Nick Tarantino popped in 18 points and Brian Kuruc grabbed 11 boards to lead the Deakins to the win. Brian Grimes dished off five assists and Matt Hoffman had four steals. For the Jaspers, Chris Caulfield dropped in seven points.
Saints 56, Jaspers 25 â Kevin OâConnell canned 12 points as the Saints rolled to the win. Tom Capozziello (five assists), Zack Bryan (five steals) and Robbie Phillips (10 rebounds) had great games. For the Jaspers, Alex Marten had eight points while Matt Madden and Yanni Koutmos played well.
Celtics 42, Deamon Deakins 40 (OT) â Evan Kennedy scored 16 points and Dana Hansen added six more to lead the Celtics to the overtime win. Tony Vacaro dished off six assists and Bryan Czel had four rebounds. For the Deakins, Tyler Tarantino had a game-high 18 points while Austin Jones chipped in with eight.
Wildcats 47, Eagles 41 â Rockwell Anyoha canned 12 points and John Fracker pulled down 10 rebounds as the Wildcats clawed the Eagles. Brad Biscoe and Danny Clement played well. For the Eagles, Max Paynter and Trevor Todd combined for 24 points while Cody Fischer had seven boards. Kyle McCarthy and Michael Herring played well.
Rockets 52, Bullets 24 â Derek Krewson popped in 14 points as the Rockets pounded the Bullets. Ryan Powers dished off five assists while Max Brazo and Josh Jowdy played well. For the Bullets, Max Baier dropped in 11 points as Ryan Daly pulled down 12 boards. Travis LeBlanc had a solid floor game.
Rockets 50, Orangemen 12 â Shane Wurtz and Ryan Powers canned 10 points apiece to lift the Rockets to the easy win. Mitch Udiskey and Max Brazo played well on D.

Pacers 32, Celtics 26 â Brittany Wiberg canned 14 points and Katy Pessca dished off six assists to lead the Pacers. Maura Scallon made four steals. For the Celtics, Hannah Basch-Gould popped in eight points, Samantha Lockhart dished off four assists, Maggie Reznikoff made four steals and Emma Fiore grabbed seven rebounds.
Gaels 28, Huskies 27 â Meredith LaPerch poured in 16 points as the Gaels rallied for the late win. Annie Fletcher dished off seven assists and Kate Foy grabbed eight rebounds. For the Huskies, Lisa Vendel dropped in 12 points while Victoria Picerno, Aura Sarna and Christina Naldini played well.

Liberty 19, Gaels 18 â Suzanne Gissen scored 12 points to lead the Liberty. Sara Principi, Katie Fossum and Natalie Galante played well. For the Gaels, Keri Chernoff scored eight points, Marian Blawie had four assists and Courtney Tenney had five steals.
Da Bears 29, Orange Crush 22 â Kristy Papaj canned 10 points and Amanda Stanton added six to lead Da Bears. Meredith Bridges and Suzanne Wright played well. For the Crush, Maddy Keane scored 12 points and Ashley Cirone added four. Caroline Kingsley, Rachel Wiberg and Courtney Escoda had solid floor games.

Thunder 52, Hurricanes 31 â Kyle Hagerman scored 14 points and Ryan Dunnigan added 13 to lead the Thunder to the win. Ben Stoller dished off four assists as Chris Erikson and Kaleb Rowe played well. For the âCanes, Mike LoBosco had 10 points and Connor Blanc dished off five assists. Casey Tenney and Patrick Thornberg played well.
Huskies 38, Raptors 24 â Ryan Crowell and Jack McManus combined for 22 points as the Huskies dealt a loss to the Raptors. Cameron McCleary registered eight assists and Jay Destories had two steals. For the Raptors, Chad Magoulas canned 10 points and Ben Morrissey dragged down eight rebounds. Alex LaCroce and Austin Hubbert played well.
Blue Knights 53, Blazing Warriors 27 â Jon Hull canned nine points and Pat Sullivan was strong off the glass to lead the Knights. For the Warriors, Colin Cooper had 14 points, Patrick Mullins had five rebounds, and Michael Daubert and Mike Calderone had solid floor games.
Spurs 28, Panthers 21 â Colin Morris popped in 12 points as the Spurs clipped the Panthers. Austin Puleri, Charlie Helgren and Scott Keating played well. For the Panthers, Keegan Lombard canned five points, Tyler Gibney dished off three assists and Pat Riccardi had three steals.
Blue Knights 27, Rockets 14 â Pat Sullivan scored five points as the Knights captured the win in a low-scoring affair. Stefan Dullinger, Mike Senf and Dylan Kelly had solid performances. For the Regulators, Michael Lord scored 10 points, Matt Vavrek grabbed 10 rebounds, and Bunna LeBlanc dished off five assists.

Nighthawks 38, Cavaliers 17 â Matt Wood poured in 14 points to power the Nighthawks to the win. Ty Runkle, Chase Wurtz and Luca Imbimbo played well. For the Cavs, Matt Lindell scored nine points and Jack Lago added four. Pat Afriyie and Jason Horowitz had strong performances.
Runninâ Raiders 33, Blue Devils 15 â Drew Tarantino canned 17 points to lead the Raiders to the win. Brendan Peterson and Matt Villamana had good floor games. For the Devils, Doug Miller popped in six points as Nick Cagganello, Isaac Farrington and Chris Carroll all played well.
Huskies 20, Knicks 19 â Jim Parker scored eight points and the Huskies trimmed the Knicks. Spencer Brindley, Dan Cummings and Jeff Grasso played well. For the Knicks, Wesley Morlock dropped in six points while Virgil Procaccini and Tommy Gleason had nice performances.

Lady Vols 20, Huskies 12 â Megan Logan scored 12 points and Catherine Neave added four. Callie Furphy, Carley Ferris (seven steals) and Daisy Young played well. For the Huskies, Siena Cicarelli scored four points as Hayley Dunn, Emily Pieretti and Vanessa Feldman played well.
Liberty 18, Mighty Chicks 15 â Kerry Scallon scored six points and Hope McMorran played well as the Liberty slipped past the Chicks. For the Chicks, Emily Grimes popped in eight points and Mary Joe Rossi, Taylor Zingaro and Morgan Macchiarulo played well.

Stefan Dulinger, Robert Linden and Mustafa Sakhi scored for the Newtown Bombas, but the locals could not maintain a lead and fell to Orange. Connor Gallagher had a solid game in the midfield and played a part in nearly every possession.
