To the Editor:

We understand the need to keep power lines clear from obstructions, but the recent initiative to clear all trees within 20 feet of power lines seems overdone and not well thought out.

A big part of the charm of Newtown is the natural beauty of its landscape. Locations where hundreds of trees were taken down such as along Castle Hill and Great Hill roads now look like they were hit by a Cat-5 hurricane, with hundreds of misshaped, uneven tree stumps lining the road.

It would be nice if the power company took the time to at least landscape these areas to make them look presentable again.
