Mary Louise Ann Dubee

Mary Louise Ann Dubee, longtime resident of Sandy Hook, Conn., passed away on December 8, 2022. She was 87.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she was the daughter of Alden Rivers, Sr, and Josephine (Musone) Rivers. She graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport in 1953. She was employed at Fairfield Hills Hospital and worked in patient care. She also received her EMT certification.

She was a woman of strong faith and had been a longtime member of the congregation at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Newtown, Conn. She had the voice of an angel and studied voice under Katherine Russell. She enjoyed singing at weddings and church functions, competing in the Jenny Lind singing contest, appeared regularly on a radio show, as well as having recorded a record and her songs were played on the radio. She was an incredible cook and baker, and her family looked forward to her eight layer birthday cakes every year.

She will be remembered for her sweet, loving nature, and her beautiful smile. Mary Louise was truly selfless and spent her life caring for and helping others. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph R. Dubee, of Sandy Hook; her brother, Alden Rivers, Jr, of Southbury, Conn.; her daughter, best friend, and anchor, Kathleen Mary Braatz, of Southbury; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Cromie, of Leesburg, Fla.; her grandchildren: Melissa Mary Black and her husband Don of Newport, R.I., Brittany Kathleen Fuller and her husband Benjamin of Greer, S.C., Col Robert Joseph Braatz, Jr, and his wife Julia of Tampa, Fla., Cynthia Braatz of Port Charlotte, Fla., James Dubee of Middletown, Conn., and Daniele Lavarnway of Glasgow, Ky.; and many great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alden and Josephine Rivers; her three sons, Timothy Patrick Dubee, Thomas Michael Dubee, and Jeffrey Alden Dubee; as well as her son-in-law, Robert Joseph Braatz, Sr.

Friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, December 16, 2022, between 4 to 7 pm at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Catholic Funeral Mass to be celebrated Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11 am at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470. The burial will be private.
