Pickup vs SUV

Police said that at about 7:36 am on November 17, motorist Emily Slosson, 25, of Newtown, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, stopped at a stop sign on Stony Brook Road at its intersection with Currituck Road.

Motorist Nadene Peterson, 53, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 Mazda CX-9 SUV, was behind the Chevrolet, police said.

Slosson then intended to turn around, so she started to back up, but in doing so the Chevrolet struck the Mazda, police said. Police said Slosson told them she did not see the Mazda positioned behind her.

There were no injuries. Police said no enforcement action was taken.

Jewelry, Car Key Found

Police said this week that they are continuing to hold for safekeeping a number of items which were found on the night of November 21 inside the pocket of a new jacket for sale on a rack at the T.J. Maxx store at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25).

The pocket contained a floral-patterned fabric jewelry pouch within was jewelry, including finger rings and necklaces, and a car key, police said. The key for a Honda-brand vehicle has an electronic vehicle-access control. Interstate Collision

State police report that at about 5 pm on November 28, motorist Darlene Faulkner, 60, of Newington, who was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata sedan on eastbound Interstate 84, drove out of her travel lane and struck a 2016 International truck driven by Terry Neely, 49, of Mount Union, Penn.

There were no injuries. Faulkner received an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane, state police said.

Subaru vs Tree

Motorist Samantha Crespo, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy southward on Oakview Road near Watkins Drive, about 2:50 pm on November 29, drove off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated Crespo at the scene for minor injuries, police said. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue also responded to the scene.

Crespo received an infraction for making a restricted turn, according to police.

Highway Accident

At about 3:12 pm on November 30, a two-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, according to state police.

The collision involved motorist Kashia Perlot, 24, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla, and motorist Philip Ullrich, 32, of Southbury, who was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion, state police said. There were no injuries.

Ullrich received an infraction for a passing violation, state police report.

Three-Vehicle Accident

Police report a three-vehicle accident near 55 Botsford Hill Road about 3:20 pm on November 30 amid wet conditions.

The incident involved motorist Bradley Capeci, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Legacy, a second motorist, who was driving a 2012 Toyota Highlander, and motorist Carlos Barragan-Zaragoza, 22, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2010 Acura TSX, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Capeci a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Honda vs Honda

At about 9:03 am on December 1, amid wet conditions, motorist Victoria Salas, 63, of West Hartford, who was driving a 2012 Honda Accord, was waiting for traffic on westbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Commerce Road, when westbound motorist Heather June, 31, of New Milford, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic, attempted to stop, but slid on the wet pavement and struck the rear end of the Accord, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned June for following too closely.

BMW Hits Rock

According to police, motorist John Sollazzo, 55, of Easton, who was driving a 2013 BMW 328-XI sedan at about 9:21 am on December 1, attempted to park the vehicle alongside Paugussett Road at a worksite. The BMW's undercarriage, however, struck a rock, which was not visible due to fallen leaves, police report. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Three Vehicles Collide

Motorist Margaret Murray, 64, of Guilford, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Versa, was waiting at a traffic signal on westbound Wasserman Way at that road's intersection with the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84 at about 1:45 pm on December 1, police report.

Motorist Evan Meier, 25, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2009 Honda Civic, was waiting behind the Nissan, police said. Motorist Philip Bachelder, 22, of Woodbridge, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry, then struck the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the Nissan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Bachelder a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle accident occurred on southbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Wills Road, about 9:05 am on December 2.

Police said motorist Frank Lapak, 83, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, stopped for stopped traffic up ahead on the roadway, after which motorist Kyle Hobbs, 25, of Bridgewater, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, began slowing behind the Toyota.

Motorist David Robles, 48, of New Milford, who was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Volkswagen, pushing the Volkswagen into the rear end of the Toyota, police said. Hobbs reported pain, but declined medical treatment, police said.

Robles received an infraction for traveling an unreasonable distance apart, according to police.

Truck Hits Overpass

At about 8:20 pm on December 2, trucker Harjinder Singn, 39, of Virginia was driving an 11'6" tall box truck eastward on Botsford Hill Road and approached the Housatonic Railroad's overpass, which is posted with an 11'5" clearance sign, police said. The truck then became wedged under the bridge, damaging the bridge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Singn an infraction for failure to obey a state traffic sign.

Church Hill Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road near the Exit 10 interchange of Interstate 84 at about 1 pm on December 3, according to police.

In that incident, motorist Carla Ratti, 57, of Danbury, who was driving a 2016 Toyota RAV-4 SUV westward on Church Hill Road, struck the rear end of a westbound 2013 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Bernadette Lund, 44, of Sandy Hook, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ratti a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Left The Scene

Police report that an unoccupied 2015 Nissan Sentra, which is owned by a Sandy Hook resident, was parked along Old Farm Road at Fairfield Hills at about 9 am on December 4, when an unknown person, who was driving a older gray Jeep CJ SUV with New York marker plates, backed into the Nissan, damaging it.

The Jeep driver then drove away from the accident scene without reporting the collision, police said.

Police are investigating the case in which the Jeep driver evaded responsibility and ask anyone who knows the identity of the Jeep's driver to contact officer Chelsea Harold at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Sandy Hook Center Accident

Police report that at about 7 am on December 6, motorist Marc Michaud, 53, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a vehicle westward on Riverside Road behind motorist Keira Veillette, 17, of Sandy Hook, pulled forward and struck the rear end of the vehicle driven by Veillette.

The accident occurred on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook Center at its intersection with Washington Avenue, Church Hill Road, and Glen Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Michaud for following too closely.

Road Rage

Police said they charged a local man with three offenses on the night of December 7, following what they characterized as a road rage incident at an intersection.

After receiving a complaint at 4:47 pm, police investigated an incident in which two motorists had disputed who had the right of way at the intersection of Castle Meadow Road and Maltbie Road. Police said they charged motorist Jason Brolet, 38, of Newtown with third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, and second-degree making a false statement.

After processing, police released Brolet on a written promise to appear in court on December 21.

Church Hill at Queen Street Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Queen Street about 9:35 pm on December 7.

Motorist Mary Lapenta, 51, of Bristol, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV on Church Hill Road, stopped at a red traffic signal, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by motorist Charles Cino, 33, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2013 Mazda CX-5 SUV, according to police.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Cino to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries due to the crash, police said. Cino received an infraction for following too closely, police report.

Masonry Tools Found

Police said that on December 8, they took in for safekeeping a set of masonry tools that were found near the intersection of Hattertown Road and Poverty Hollow Road.

The tools' owner may claim them by contacting Police Officer Stephanie Vegerano at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, and identifying the found items.

Rollover Crash

Police report that at about 12:11 am on December 9, motorist Steven Vantassell, 28, of Southbury, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier southward on Botsford Hill Road, near its intersection with High Bridge Road, drove off the right road shoulder, after which the auto struck an embankment, reentered the roadway and landed on its left side.

Police said Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Vantassell to Danbury Hospital for treatment of possible injuries. Police report the accident is under investigation.

DUI Arrest

Police report they received a complaint at about 11:44 pm on December 9 reporting that a vehicle was being driven erratically on High Bridge Road, so they responded to the area to investigate.

Police said they found the vehicle in question parked at an office building's parking lot at 153 South Main Street, after which they investigated. Police said they arrested motorist Daniel Caird, 50, of Fairfield, on a charge of driving under the influence.

Following arrest processing, police released Caird on $100 bail for an arraignment on the charge on January 4 at State Superior Court in Danbury.

Pontiac vs Tree

Motorist Douglas Carriero, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville sedan southward on High Rock Road at about 11 am on December 10, drove off the right road shoulder and a struck a tree, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Carriero a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Center

At about 5:19 pm on December 10, motorist Inez Tristao, 31, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2015 BMW X-5 SUV, was on eastbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, and Glen Road, when eastbound motorist Jacob Pellagrino, 17, of Islesboro, Maine, who was driving a 2009 Hyundai Elantra, struck the rear end of the BMW, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Pellagrino received an infraction for following too closely.
