Ernest Louis Vellozzi, 82, of Stamford died December 12, surrounded by his family, from complications of kidney disease. Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., in 1933, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a US Army veteran.

His loving wife of 58 years, Mary; his children and spouses, Lisa and Ivan Saxonmeyer of Newtown, Gina and Richard Smeriglio of Wallingford, and Chris and Debby Vellozzi of Stamford; and his much adored and cherished grandchildren, Matthew Saxonmeyer, Mandee Dobrosky, and Jacob and Lucas Vellozzi, survive Mr Vellozzi.

After many years with Xerox Corporation, Mr Vellozzi was self-employed until his retirement in the early 1990s. After retirement, he and his wife traveled with dear friends around the United States and world. A political buff, he was always up for a vigorous debate, but rest assured, he was as good a listener as a talker.

For those having the good fortune of having met him, you knew immediately that you liked him. His always-positive outlook, disarming wit, and compassion for all are what defined him best. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will take place Wednesday, December16, from 4 to 7 pm, with a service in the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, at 7 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org.
