Warren George Roome, EdD, died December 11 in Newtown. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Elizabeth (Jones) Roome of Portland, Maine.
He was born July 8, 1912, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, son of Percy Arthur and Lillian (Corkum) Roome. He was raised in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and attended public schools there. After graduation from Mt Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, in 1933, he became a teacher at Amherst High School, where he taught until 1946.
Later, he went on to get his masterâs and doctorate degrees from Columbia University in New York City. He was a mathematics professor at Lafayette College in Easton, Penn., from 1946 to 1949, then Radford University in Radford, Va., from 1949 to 1958, and finally Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., from 1958 to 1975, when he retired as Professor Emeritus.
He and his wife spent their retirement years on Nettles Island in Jensen Beach, Fla. They both enjoyed classical music and played the viola and violin in several community orchestras.
Dr Roome leaves his loving family including his son, Ian Roome; his daughter-in-law, Ethel-Anne; and his granddaughter, Olivia Roome, all of Southbury; and three nieces and four nephews. He was a treasured father, esteemed father-in-law, and adored grandpa.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour.
