Eleanor Clark Nielsen, 85, of Bethel, died at her home surrounded by family on December 3. She was the widow of William J. Clark and John C. Nielsen. Mrs Nielsen lived in Newtown for 25 years, and moved to Bethel 24 years ago.
She was born in Sanok, Poland, on October 20, 1921, to Caroline and Lawrence Wojnarowski. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 7, growing up in Bridgeport. She studied voice for seven years, and recorded songs with her first husband, Stan Nijelski and her brother, the late Frank Wojnarowski. She spent her life as a devoted mother, homemaker, and interior decorator. She loved to sew, cook, read, and travel, but most importantly, was a people person.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Clark of Bethel and Bill Clark of Jerusalem, Israel; two daughters, Susan Douglas of Paeonian Springs, Va., and Pat Dower of Princeton, Mass.; a son-in-law, Steve Douglas; a daughter-in-law, Judith Shapiro Clark; five grandchildren, Tamara, Jim, Jerry, Joe, and Brittany; and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Maggie.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family, followed by a private family ceremony in Newtown.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut. Their caring and compassion as angels on earth during Mrs Nielsenâs extended illness was a blessing and will always be remembered.
