Consider Car Donation This Holiday Season
ROCKY HILL â This holiday season, the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut (NKF) is reminding residents about the opportunity to help others with the donation of an old car to NKFâs Kidney Cars program.
NKF, which was the first major national charity to offer vehicle donation with its highly successful Kidney Cars program, sells donated cars at auctions or for parts. Sixty-seven percent of the proceeds go to support the programs and services to those that suffer from chronic kidney disease. There is another benefit for most people who donate their car to NKF.
âThe Kidney Cars program enables the NKF to continue its fight against kidney disease through programs in research, patient services, professional and public education, advocacy and organ donation,â said Kim Hathaway, CEO of the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut. âBy donating your old car to our program, you are not only helping thousands of Connecticut residents on dialysis or awaiting a transplant, Â you may also qualify for a tax deduction. Itâs a win-win situation for everyone.â
Individuals interested in donating a car should call 800-488-CARS (2277). NKF will mail a packet containing a self-addressed envelope to the donor, which is then used to mail back the signed title and odometer statement.
Once NKF receives the packet, they will contact the donor to arrange plans for pickup. To be eligible for a tax break, make sure to get a tax receipt within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle.
