Lockwood-Mathews Mansion will present a holiday gift to the community, its Annual Holiday Celebration. The special event will be on Sunday, December 17, noon until 4 pm. Guests will be invited to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate courtesy of Lindt Chocolates, and enjoy a Christmas Choral concert with performances by Serendipity, West Rock Middle School, Brian McMahon High School, First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, Instrumental Music by Chris Schreiner.
Admission to the afternoon of entertainment and good cheer is free.
In addition to the holiday celebration, approximately 30 decorated twinkling Christmas trees as well as hundreds of yards of garland decorate the museum in full holiday regalia. The museum will keep its magnificent decorations, set against a backdrop of historic architecture, until January 5.
Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is a not-for-profit educational institution chartered by the State of Connecticut. The mansion, its four outbuildings and estate grounds are owned by the City of Norwalk and maintained as a cultural and recreational resource for all. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971, the mansion is widely regarded as one of the finest surviving Second Empite style country houses ever built in the country. It was designed by the European architect Detlef Lieneau and completed in 1868.
The museum was formed in 1966 to undertake the restoration, open the facility to the public, and sponsor educational program related to the Victorian Era. The mansion regularly hosts programs, tours, lectures and workshops, educational trips, exhibits and special events.
