To the Editor:

The Garden Club of Newtown would like to thank The Newtown Bee for their support with articles and photos promoting our annual Greens and Gifts Sale on December 2. The Club also thanks Caraluzzi’s Newtown for their support in ordering the bare wreaths. They have been a longtime source for the Club, providing consistently good quality. We would also like to thank Newtown Congregational Church for their willingness to let us use their Great Room for three days, where we assembled then staged our Greens. It was no small task nor small mess to create our one-of-a-kind items including 75 wreaths, 21 boxwood tree arrangements and 38 centerpieces, all requiring hours of work and lots of local greens. Thanks go to our many creative members and guests, for their dedication to this project. We were pleased that only a handful of items remained after the 3-hour sale, which were donated within Newtown.

Three local authors, Sydney Eddison, Nancy Crevier and Shirley Ferris, were in attendance selling and autographing their books and we thank them for their support. Nancy Crevier donated several of her paintings for sale and many members donated handmade items, preserves, and holiday accents for sale.

The funds from this annual fundraiser support our annual scholarship to a Newtown student pursuing environmental and related studies; our monthly programs, which are open to the public at no cost; and our ongoing Club expenses. We know there is a lot going on in Newtown the first weekend of December and we thank all who came to our sale and purchased a decorative item for the holidays. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to welcoming you once again on December 7, 2024!
