Rocco Marucci
Rocco “Rocky” Marucci, 83, of Danbury died December 11 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband for 57 years to the late Carol (Daly) Marucci. He was born in Orange, N.J., August 1, 1932, and was the son of the late Giuseppina (Troisi) and Simplicio Marucci.
He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956, stationed in Florida.
His sons and their wives, Michael and Susan of Sandy Hook, Mark and Robin of Bethel, Rocco of Danbury, Robert and Brenda of Naugatuck, and John of Danbury; daughter Michele, and fiancé Donald Olson, of Bethel; and several nieces and nephews survive Mr Marucci. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, ranging in age from 3 to 37. Three brothers, James, Michael, and Samuel, and a sister, Brigitte Williams, predeceased him.
Mr Marucci was employed with Castro Convertibles Danbury factory for 25 years, self-employed as a countertop maker, and worked for Matz Lumber of Danbury for more than 20 years.
He was a standout fast-pitch softball pitcher. While in the Navy he was named All-Armed Forces for three straight years. After the Navy, he played with teams such as the Norwalk Eagles, Poughkeepsie Brewers, and Raybestos Cardinals of Stratford. He was inducted into the Connecticut and New York State Softball Halls of Fame. While playing for the Poughkeepsie Brewers he was voted to the National All-Star Teams in 1970 and 1972.
Friends may call at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, Tuesday, December 15, from 5 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Joseph Church in Danbury, Wednesday, December 16, at 10 am. Burial will follow at St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
