La Cava Decker
âShe Was Our Nonnyâ
Josephine M. âSueâ Greer La Cava Decker, 92, of Danbury, died on December 5 at Danbury Hospital. She was born on April 27, 1915, the daughter of John and Lillian (Birt) Greer. She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph La Cava, in 1976 and by her second husband, William Decker, in 1995.
She was very much loved and will be forever missed by her son, Joseph F. La Cava, Jr, and his wife, Mary Ann, of Newtown; her daughter, Lorraine Furino of Danbury; six grandchildren, Dianne, Robert, Robin, Jane, Joseph, and Shalor; eight great-grandchildren, John Paul, Peter, Nicola, Mycah, Connor, Lauren, Joseph, and Madeline; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands she was predeceased by a daughter, Sharron A. La Cava; and two brothers, George and Jack Greer.
Mrs Decker was a lifelong resident of Danbury who was employed by the Barden Corporation for many years. She later became a homemaker who loved to cook and bake, feeding anyone who stopped by.
She crocheted beautiful afghans and worked on crossword puzzles, and watched golf and baseball. She kept up with all current events and remembered all of the past.
For the last seven years, due to ill health, she was a resident of Filosa Convalescent Home, where she received excellent care. She made friends with the nurses, aides, supervisory, secretarial, recreational, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, and beauty parlor staff. She was friendly with other residents and their relatives and visitors, offering direction and giving advice and consolation. She loved being involved in activities and was looking forward to the annual Christmas raffle, having already purchased many tickets for relatives, friends, and staff members.
Mrs Decker enjoyed receiving lottery tickets and enjoyed it even more when she won. She always prayed for everyoneâs special intentions and she was very proud of her family and their accomplishments.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 10 in St Peter Church, Danbury. Interment followed in St Peter Cemetery.
Contributions in Mrs Deckerâs memory may be made to Filosa Convalescent Home, Recreation Department, 13 Hakim Street, Danbury CT 06810.
