Donations Still Being Accepted—

St Rose Toy Closet

Will Be Open Tuesday Evening

The Knights of Columbus Council 185 in Newtown is continuing its second year of providing a Toy Closet to the greater Newtown community.

At a time when costs are rising and income is stretched, the Knights hope to keep local youth smiling and bring a little relief to families who are in need of a helping hand. The Toy Closet is stocked throughout the year by St Rose parishioners. Knights sort and store all new toys and gifts that are made available to infants through teens.

These items are available year round but most are distributed at Christmas.

St Rose Hall, at 46 Church Hill Road, will be open from 6 to 9 pm on Tuesday, December 18, to anyone in need of a few toys for a loved one. Soft Christmas music and a few decorations will convey a feeling of warmth as children or adults decide on their toy choices.

A few Knights will be on hand to help carry gifts out. Confidentiality is assured. All are welcome, and gift wrapping will even be available.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the toy chest can dropped off new unwrapped gifts in the St Rose Church vestibule any time between now and December 18. Large boxes donated by Curtis Packaging will be set up for collections.

A most pressing need is for gifts suitable for teenaged boys and girls.

Gifts will be used during the Toy Closet open house or sent to various hospitals, schools, and shelters. The church and its Knights of Columbus chapter continues to help a mission in still-hurricane ravaged Mississippi, who is the recipient of hundreds of toys from the St Rose Toy Closet.

For further information or any questions contact Jim Tevnan at 270-8787 or the St Rose parish office at 426-1014.
