Craig N. Breny

Korean War Veteran

Craig N. Breny, 78, lifelong resident of Norwalk, died December 10 at Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norwalk on December 8, 1929, he was the son of Clesson E. and Jean M. Breny.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Angie L. (Cenatempo) Breny; a son, John W. Breny and his wife, Alison M. Badolato, of Newtown; a daughter, Dr Jean M. Breny Bontempi and her husband, Christopher D. Bontempi, of Hamden; several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by a sister, Byrle Breny, in 2006.

A 1948 graduate of Norwalk High School, he was an active member of its alumni association and the Class of 1948 Reunion Committee. Mr Breny was an engineer for the Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1988 after nearly 36 years of service. He served the country during the Korean War with the Army National Guard, 963rd Field Artillery Battalion, Headquarters Battery, 43rd Infantry Division. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion, Telephone Pioneers of America, and the First Congregational Church of Norwalk. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, car racing, bird watching, coin and stamp collecting, and spending time with family.

Mr Breny’s family will receive friends in the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory (Raymond Community Funeral Home), 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, Friday, December 14, from 3 to 7 pm. His funeral will be held Saturday, December 15, at 10 am, in the First Congregational Church On The Green, the corner of Park and Lewis Streets, Norwalk. Pastor Leigh G. McCaffrey will officiate. Interment in the family plot will be held privately. Please omit flowers.
