Tours Added At Weir Farm
RIDGEFIELD/WILTON â Due to the overwhelming popularity of its monthly Stone Walls Walking Tours, beginning in January Weir Farm National Historic Site will offer the tours once a week, on Sunday mornings at 11. The availability of studio tours has also been increased.
The tours explore the various walls that shaped Connecticutâs landscape and inspired artists. Visitors see examples of the functional and beautiful walls constructed between approximately 1775 and the 1930s. They also learn the difference between thrown, rubble and laid walls.
Since the tours are outdoor walking tours, visitors need to dress appropriately for the weather. There is no fee but space is limited and reservations are therefore required.
The 18th Century farm has been used continuously by artists since 1882. Historic art studio tours include Weirâs studio and sculptor Mahonri Youngâs 1930s studio, where Young worked on the âThis is the Placeâ monument and the âBrigham Youngâ statue now in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Studio tours are offered Wednesday through Saturday at 11 am and 1 and 3 pm, and Sunday at 1 and 3 pm. Call 203/834-1896 or visit www.nps.gov/wefa for additional information.
