Warns Of Christmas Tree Netting

To the Editor:

It’s that time of year again! Time to put up the tree and get ready for Christmas! And for those who get a live tree, that means going out and looking for the perfect one.

Oftentimes, these live trees come in red plastic netting to keep them closed on the car drive. When you get home, you set up the tree, cut off the netting, and throw it away.

Unfortunately, this netting poses a potential threat to wildlife. If it blows out of your garbage can or the landfill, birds and animals can become entangled in it and be constricted to death or unable to find food.

A good way to avoid this is to snip the loops before disposal. It would take a while to cut each one individually, so a quicker way is to double it up a few times and snip every few inches, making sure each loop is cut.

Please take the few extra minutes this Christmas season to help keep our wildlife safe.
