Newtown players will help the Masuk of Monroe-led cooperative girls’ hockey team compete again this winter.

Catie Gregory, a senior captain who plays forward and defense, senior forward Bridget Nicholson, junior forward Annie Fowler, and freshman forward Mia Paltauf all represent Newtown.

Other captains are Joel Barlow of Redding’s Erin Webdale, Masuk’s Arainna Perierra, and Lauralton Hall of Milford’s Halle Peterlin as skaters from area schools join forces to hone skills and challenge opponents.

“We have a lot more depth than we have had in the past,” said Coach Andy Townsend, adding that he expects this depth to result in an increase of offense from the team this winter.

Townsend anticipates good games against Trumbull, Wilton, Daniel Hand of Madison, Branford, and Westhill-Stamford.

The home opener (at The Rinks at Shelton) is on Friday, December 13, when the Notre Dame-Fairfield-Law-Foran-Weston-Pomperaug team visits at 4 pm.
