Motorist Drives The Wrong Way For Ten Miles On I-84
An alleged drunken driver drove the wrong way for approximately ten miles on Interstate 84 early on the morning of December 5, before state police apprehended him near Exit 10 and arrested him on multiple charges.
State police said that motorist Leger Venal, 31, of Irvington, N.J., was seen driving a vehicle eastward in the westbound lanes of I-84 at about 4:20 am.
Venal drove the wrong way on the highway a distance of approximately ten miles, from Exit 5 in Danbury to Exit 10 in Newtown, before being stopped, according to state police. There typically is little traffic on the highway that time of day.
State police arrested Venal on charges of driving under the influence, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, reckless driving, and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Venal is next scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on December 15 to enter pleas in the case.
