Flagpole Accident
Police report an accident about 6:40 pm on December 5 at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street.
In the incident, motorist Deborah Johnston, 56, of Fairfield was driving a 2008 Nissan Versa sedan southward on Main Street and approaching the flagpole, as motorist Mary Malin, 17, of 76 Great Hill Road was driving a 2004 Dodge Stratus westward on Church Hill Road, police said.
The Dodge then entered the southbound lane on Main Street and the two vehicles collided, police said. After the initial impact, the Dodge then struck two unoccupied vehicles that were parked along the southbound side of Main Street — a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV and a and 2014 Lincoln MRX SUV, police said.
Johnston and Emma Davola, 16, of 27 Taunton Ridge Road, who was a passenger in the Dodge, were transported to Danbury Hospital, police said.
Police said they issued Malin an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.
Chainsaw Theft
At about 7:30 am on December 1, a Pocono Road resident discovered that an orange Husqvarna-brand chainsaw, which had been stored in a shed, had been stolen, police report. The tool has a 16-inch-long blade. Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with knowledge of the missing chainsaw’s whereabouts to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
Turf Damage
Police are investigating an incident in which an unknown driver early on the morning of December 7 intentionally drove across the terrain at 1 South Main Street, causing property damage there. The site is on the southern corner of South Main Street and Glover Avenue. Police are investigating the incident and ask those with knowledge of the matter to contact Officer Maryhelen McCarthy.
Chestnut Hill
Sometime overnight on December 4–5, an unknown motorist, who was traveling westward on Berkshire Road, went off the road and drove across the rear yard at 31 Chestnut Hill Road, damaging some shrubbery and a stone wall, police said. The driver then left the scene. The property is at the eastern intersection of Berkshire Road and Chestnut Hill Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey.
Icy Roadway
At about 8:22 am on December 7, motorist Katrina Cucolo, 31, of 3 Pequot Path, who was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty SUV westward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Jordan Hill Road, encountered some icy pavement, causing the vehicle to skid and strike a rock ledge embankment, police said.
Cucolo was transported to Danbury Hospital for medical treatment, police said. Police said Cococlo received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for failure to wear a seatbelt.
Decorations Stolen
Sometime overnight on December 6–7, someone stole various holiday decorations displayed by several businesses at Village Square, a retail center at 43 South Main Street, police said. The stolen items include holiday wreaths, a small Santa Claus with his sleigh, and two hanging baskets. Police are investigating the thefts and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer Maryhelen McCarthy.
Boggs Hill Road
A one-car accident occurred on the section of Boggs Hill Road between its intersections with Mt Nebo Road and Palestine Road about 7:36 am on November 30.
Motorist Maryann Kiss, 55, of 16 Mt Nebo Road, who was driving a 2002 Audi A-6 sedan southward on Boggs Hill Road, lost control of the vehicle and it went off the left road shoulder, striking a guy wire and a stone wall, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said issued Kiss an infraction for failure to drive to the right.
Four Vehicles
A four-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred near 103 South Main Street about 8:22 am on December 5. All vehicles involved in the crash were headed southward.
Police said that motorist Kelly Bratchell, 25, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt coupe, had stopped behind a 2011 Hyundai Sonata sedan driven by Thomas James, 56, of New Fairfield, which had stopped behind a 2012 GMC Acadia SUV driven by Harold Clarke, 65, of 9 Pinnacle Drive.
Motorist Michael Alicea, 18, of 22 Bonnie Brae Drive, who was driving a 204 Hyundai Elantra sedan, struck the rear end of the Cobalt, which pushed the Cobalt into the rear end of the Sonata, which pushed the Sonata into the rear end of the Acadia, police said.
Alicea and Bratchell reported injuries, police said. Alicea received an infraction for following too closely, police said.
House Burglary
On December 5, police received a report concerning a burglary that had occurred at a house on Thunder Ridge Road, a dead-end street extending from Berkshire Road.
In the incident, someone illegally entered a house under renovation and had attempted to steal a bathroom vanity/sink from a second-story bathroom, police said.
In unsuccessfully attempting to get the piece of furniture out of the house, the perpetrators damaged some drywall and a staircase. The crime occurred sometime between 4 pm on December 4 and 8 am on December 5.
Detective Joe Joudy, who is investigating the incident for police, asks anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact him at the police station.
I-84 Crash
At about 8:30 am on December 3, motorist Laura Blersch, 30, of Southbury, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Matrix hatchback westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of Exit 9, slowed for heavy traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Ramapriya Vidhun, 43, of Southbury, who was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Vidhun for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Warrant
Police report that on the afternoon of December 8, they arrested Robert E. Cain, Jr, 53, of 2 Jet Brook Road on a warrant, lodging a charge of second-degree failure to appear in court. Cain was held on $5,000 bail for a December 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.
Fugitive
Police report that at about 10:30 am on December 8 after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Brendan Damato, 33, of 4 Valley View Road turned himself over to police at the police station and was charged with being a fugitive from justice in connection with a pending drug charge in Florida.
After processing the arrest, police released Damato on $50,000 bail for a December 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Hawleyville
About 6:24 pm on December 6, motorist Scott Parker, 43, of Chatsworth, Ga., who was driving a commercial 2011 Ford bucket-lift truck in the parking lot at 23 Barnabas Road, backed into a 2001 Volkswagen Passat sedan being driven by Fred Busch, 86, of Brookfield, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they took no enforcement.
Sedan Vs Sedan
Police report a two-car accident on Hawleyville Road at the Exit 9 interchange of Interstate 84 about 6:52 am on December 1.
The collision involved motorist Patricia Gilroy, 69, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2007 Hyundai Sonata sedan, and motorist Lucille Horvath, 60, of 1 Crabapple Lane, who was driving a 2014 Honda Civic sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Gilroy for failure to grant the right of way.
