HARTFORD — Court documents indicate that the parents of several of the children killed on 12/14 intend to file wrongful death lawsuits.

Probate court records show that parents of 11 of the 20 first graders killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School have created estates for their children, which would be required to file lawsuits on their behalf. The documents do not say who they intend to sue.

A court clerk says most of the parents checked a box on the forms saying they intend to file wrongful death actions. The Hartford Courant first reported the estate filings.

Nine of the estate filings were made this month, another was filed in late 2012, and the eleventh was filed last year, according to probate court records.

Sunday is the second anniversary of 12/14. The statute of limitations to file most civil lawsuits in Connecticut is two years.

Several parents who filed the estate documents did not immediately return messages seeking comment Tuesday. A spokesperson for Sandy Hook Promise, the Newtown-based nonprofit group that advocates for gun violence prevention and mental wellness programs, said several parents were declining to comment about the probate court filings.

The probate court filings involve 11 of the children killed in the massacre: Charlotte Bacon, Daniel Barden, Dylan Hockley, Jesse Lewis, Ana Marquez-Green, James Mattioli, Grace McDonnell, Jack Pinto, Jessica Rekos, Avielle Richman and Benjamin Wheeler.
