Troopers Collecting For Vets & Children

The State Police of Connecticut are asking the public to give back to those that have given so much, by collecting Secret Santa gifts for the veterans who are recovering at The Rocky Hill Veteran’s Home. This state-run health facility helps approximately 500 veterans in either the long-term care hospital, or the residential program. The veterans range in age from World War II to the present day wars.

New items may be dropped off at the State Police Barracks in Southbury, located at Exit 14, off I-84, (90 Lakeside Road). Some of the items suggested are men’s clothing, including socks, PJs, robes, fleece vests, large size sweat pants and sweat shirts, reading glasses, AA and AAA batteries, military memorabilia and patches, board games, caps of any sports team, DVD movies, wallets, and shaving kits. Gift certificates for Big Y, Stop & Shop, Blockbuster Video, and Kmart are also appreciated. Monetary donations are welcome. Make checks payable to Connecticut Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Secret Santa Program. For more information call 800-375–9918.

State Police are also collecting for children in our area whose families are facing financial difficulty. Sgt Dan Semosky has been heading the program for the past several years and will be collecting toys at the State Police Barracks in Southbury or at Police Headquarters in Oxford, 429 Oxford Road.

For information call 203-267-2200 or toll-free, 800-376-1554.
