Newtown High School Senior Art students will have a Portfolio Show of their works December 14-18 during regular library hours.
Childrenâs Programs
*The Reluctant Dragon, a puppet show: On Sunday, December 13, at 2 pm, Lionheart Puppet Company will present âThe Reluctant Dragon.â
 What happens when Herold discovers a dragon in the mountains? Can he convince the villagers that he just wants to be friends? Recommended for ages 4 and up, this show is being sponsored by Camp Playland of Redding (CampPlayland.com).
Registration can be done online.
*Holiday Craft with Marie Walker: Children ages 6-9 are invited to make a tree centerpiece from a Styrofoam cone, fun fur and jeweled stars on Thursday, December 17, at 4 pm.
The material fee is $5 due upon registration. Sign up at the childrenâs circulation desk.
*Beyond Candy Land â European Board Game Fun: Tired of the same old board games? Educator Eric Paradis will introduce children and their parents to a wide variety of unique, fun and challenging games in the meeting room on Wednesday, December 30, from 1 to 4 pm.
The program is for ages 4 to adult, and parents must remain in the room with children under age 10.

*RESCHEDULED: Nailing the Interview: Career coach and counselor Cheryl Schwartz will share important information and inspiring insights on how to best market yourself at your next job interview.
Join us on Thursday, December 17, from 3 to 4:30 pm, for this job search workshop. Please note this is a new date for the workshop, which was originally scheduled for December 10.
Registration is requested. The workshop is free but space is limited.
*Book Discussions: The Daytime Book Group will meet on Monday, December 14, at 1 pm, to discuss Devil in a Blue Dress.
*Reality Maps (â¦.or Not Your Usual Memoir): Julie Stern is back to lead another great book discussion. This time sheâll focus on four American memoirs.
From Rory Stewartâs adventure narrative set in Afghanistan to Mary-Ann Tirone Smithâs description of blue collar Hartford in the 1940s and 50s, the four books selected by Julie offer insightful portraits of places and experiences different form our own, yet universal in their humanity.
Discussions will be Wednesday nights starting at 7:30 and will cover the following: January 13, Places in Between by Rory Stewart; January 27, Girls of Tender Age by Mary-Ann Tirone Smith; February 10, The Colored People by Henry Louis Gates Jr; and February 24, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris.
