Middle Gate Students Learn âThe Magic Of Communicationâ
By Eliza Hallabeck
Through magic, students at Middle Gate Elementary School learned about communication last week with Scott Jameson, a stage performer, who visited the school for a schoolwide assembly.
Mr Jameson started the presentation by asking students to share their name all at once.
âAll of us were talking at once,â said Mr Jameson, âand none of us were listening.â
He explained that listening is a key part to communication.
Mr Jameson then began his presentation, which included juggling balls, making an egg disappear in a bag, and unfolding a crumpled and torn newspaper as whole.
To demonstrate to students that communication is possible without sound, Mr Jameson walked through the seated students in Middle Gateâs gymnasium and silently pointed to a boy. The student followed him up and, wordlessly, mimicked everything Mr Jameson did.
During the presentation students learned the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, in 1918 the first air mail cost 24 cents to send, and more.
