Bus Break-In
Police report that sometime between December 1 and 4, some person or persons entered a school bus parked in front of Plymouth Hall at Fairfield Hills and took items including a radio and fire extinguisher. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.
Multiple Charges
On December 4 at about 9:36 pm, Newtown Police Officer Michael McGowan was on a DUI enforcement patrol when he reportedly observed Kathryn Metzker, 34, of Dusty Lane operating a 2005 Toyota Southbound on Toddy Hill Road in the area of Clearview Drive. The vehicle was stopped for traveling above the posted speed limit, and for an equipment violation. But during a subsequent investigation, officers determined a field sobriety test was warranted and the driver failed that testing. Police also found a child under the age of 18 was a passenger in the vehicle. As a result, Metzker was arrested for risk of injury to a minor, along with operating under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions, and failure to illuminate a rear marker plate. She was processed and released on a $100 cash bond pending a December 22 court date.
Warrant Served
On December 6, Christopher Barocsi, 25, of Dusty Lane turned himself in to Newtown Police after learning of a warrant for his arrest. He was subsequently charged with larceny in the sixth degree in connection with an incident that occurred October 8. He was released on a $2,500 bond and given a court date of December 22.
DUI Arrest
After responding to a report of an erratic operator at about 5:55 pm December 6, police located the vehicle in question at Main Street and Blackman Road. Upon investigating, police report the individual was operating under the influence and arrested Amy Andras, 27, of South Main Street on the charge. She was released on a $100 cash bond pending a December 21 court appearance.
Restricted Turn
On December 3 at about 9:30 am, police responded to the intersection of Berkshire Road and Jordan Hill Road where they found a 2002 Chrysler Voyager off the roadway in a ditch. Police report that the operator, Jeanne Puglisi, 53, of Bagburn Hill Road in Monroe, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road when she attempted an illegal turn into Jordan Hill Road. During the maneuver, the driver lost control and struck a metal guardrail before coming to rest in the ditch. She was cited for making a restricted turn and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Minor Damage
Police responded to the intersection of South Main Street and Bryan Lane at 8:17 am on December 6 to investigate a minor traffic collision. Upon arriving police determined that Robert Maurer, 66, of Bryan Lane was attempting to turn from his street onto South Main Street in his Infinity QX56. At the same time a 2003 Honda Civic being operated by Jon Robert, 30, was attempting to turn from South Main Street onto Bryan Lane when his driver side door was hit by the Infinity, which police say was in motion. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, and Maurer was cited for failure to grant the right of way when making a left turn.
Traveling Too Fast
During a snowy period around 5 pm December 5, police responded to 25 Mt Nebo Road after a report of a 2005 Mercury Montego sedan into a pole. While no injuries were reported, police cited the operator, Elizabeth Cooper, 51, of Aunt Park lane with traveling too fast for conditions. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Bicycle Found
At about 5:10 pm on December 7, police recovered a small bicycle from the area of The Boulevard and Schoolhouse Hill Road. Anyone with information about its owner is asked to contact Officer Steven Siecienski at Police Headquarters.
Following Too Close
Police were sent to investigate a minor collision in the area of 12 Main Street at about 12:58 pm on December 6. Upon arrival officers determined that Dennis Gallagher, 43, of Brushy Hill Road was operating a 2008 Ford Escape and following behind a 2004 Honda Element being operated by Kevin Clement, 48, of Sugar Street. When the Honda reportedly slowed for pedestrians crossing Main Street, it was hit from behind by the Ford, causing minor damage to both vehicles. Gallagher was subsequently cited for following too close.
Hanover Road Stop
Taking notice of a vehicle traveling on Hanover Road without a properly illuminated rear marker plate, police pulled over Sean Tibbitts, 24, of Hanover Road. A computer check revealed that the operatorâs license was suspended and he was arrested and charged on both counts. Tibbitts was released on a written promise to appear in court on December 22.
Youthful Offenders
Police responded to the area of Ford Road and Antes Avenue at about 3 am on December 5 after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle parked there. Following an investigation, four youthful offenders under the age of 18 were charged with simple trespass, along with the driver being charged with violating a town ordinance on winter parking, and driving between the hours of 11 pm and 5 am with an age-restricted license. Police say the youths were found to have âtoilet paperedâ at least one residence on Antes Avenue. The operatorâs license was seized as a result of the curfew violation.
Danbury Man Arrested
An officer on routine patrol on Main Street at about 1:23 am on December 4 noticed a vehicle traveling fast and followed that operator onto Mt Pleasant Road where the officer reportedly observed the vehicle swerving out of the travel lane. After initiating a traffic stop and investigating, the operator, David Nelson, 29, of Avalon Valley Drive in Danbury was arrested for operating under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions, and failure to drive in the right hand lane. Nelson later posted a $100 bond and was released pending a December 17 court date.
Camper Vandalized
Sometime between November 23 and 29, a rear window of a motor home parked at a residence on The Boulevard was damaged. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Police Department at 203-426-5841.
Bumper Damage
At about 9:51 am on November 27, police responded to a minor vehicle accident at 12 Berkshire Road. Upon investigating, police say Mihaela Dabrian, 40, of Country Walk, Shelton, who was operating a 2007 Toyota Carolla, failed to slow for traffic and bumped the rear of a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu being operated by Michael Mullen, 32, of West Road in Ridgefield. There were no injuries and minor damage resulted. Dabrian was cited for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Larceny Sixth
Naugatuck Police arrested Brian Demers, 40, of Hart Circle in Waterbury on December 3, and learned that there was an active arrest warrant for the individual in Newtown on a charge of larceny in the sixth degree. After being processed locally, Demers was released on a $100 cash bond pending a December 17 court date.
Vehicle Towed
At about 5:14 pm on December 4, police and Botsford Fire volunteers responded to a motor vehicle collision at 137 South Main Street. While firefighters washed down leaking fluids, police determined that Joeline Spivack, 96, of Heritage Village who was operating a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta hit a 2005 Chevrolet Express van being operated by Gary Dayton, 50, of Diamond Drive when the van slowed for traffic. No injuries were reported and Spivack was cited for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Missing Phone?
Anyone missing a black LG / AT&T cellphone that may have been lost at Dickenson Park is asked to contact police. There is no identifying information on the phone and it does not activate. The phone was found on November 25 and was turned in to police three days later.
Stolen Tools
Police report that sometime between 5:30 pm on November 24, and 7:35 am on November 25, some person or persons removed several tools from a yard on Butternut Ridge. Police are looking for a DeWalt 12-inch miter saw, a Makita circular saw, a Craftsman three-gallon compressor, two 50-foot compressor hoses, a Paslode nail gun, and a brass three-way compressor fitting. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer John McCluskey at 203-426-5841.
Deer Strike
At about 6:40 pm on December 2, police investigated a one-car collision involving a 2004 Chevrolet Venture van at 166 Mt Pleasant Road. According to the operator, James Forte, 46, of Promontory Drive, Wallingford, a deer entered the road and struck the left front portion of the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Suspended License
After observing a vehicle on Wasserman Way operating without an illuminated rear marker plate, police stopped David Kellogg, 57, of Southbury Road, Roxbury. Upon investigation it was determined he was also operating with a suspended license and was arrested on both counts. After processing, Kellogg was released on a written promise to appear in court on December 16.
Outstanding Warrant
Michael Masilotti, 41, of Taunton Lake Drive turned himself into Newtown Police at 1 pm on December 3 after learning of an outstanding arrest warrant. He was charged with assault in the second degree, breach of peace and threatening, police say, following an incident at a Pine Street residence on October 4. The individual was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of December 4.
Intoxicated Driver
Police were called to Young Industries at about 8:48 am on December 2 after a report that an intoxicated commercial operator had collided with a building and a parked trailer. Officers arrested Onkar Singh, 42, of Hilliard, Ohio, on a charge of operating under the influence and held him on a $2,500 bond pending arraignment the following morning.
Pig Found
At about 5:04 pm on December 2, police responded to a report of a wandering pig in the area of Alpine and Capital Drives. Officers located the wayward animal and transported it to a local farm for safekeeping. The owner of the pig is asked to call 203-270-4297.
Flagpole Collision
At about 10 am on November 22, police responded to the flag pole at Church Hill Road and Main Street after a report of a minor collision. Police say Robert Touloukian, 73, of Robin Road in Woodbridge was operating a 2005 Audi A6 and attempting to cross the intersection from Church Hill across Main Street, when he collided with a 2001 Saturn sedan being operated by Christopher Moore, 29, of Bonnie Brae Drive. No injuries were reported and Touloukian was cited for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.
Vehicle Towed
Police say a 2002 Saturn Vue being operated by Victor Burch, 17, of Johns Road, Brookfield, was damaged after the operator failed to negotiate a curve on Taunton Lake Road at about 9:09 pm on November 28. Police report that the vehicle drove up on curbing at the location resulting in undercarriage damage that required it to be towed from the scene. The driver was charged with making an illegal turn.
Asleep At Wheel
State Police responded to the area of Exit 10 on Interstate 84 westbound at about 4:25 am December 6 after a report of a single vehicle collision about one-half mile east of the exit. Police located a 2006 Honda Civic being operated by Michael Occhino, 23, of Hawleyville Road, Bethel, which had damage to the extent it had to be towed. Police said the driver stated he was returning home from work when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle caused heavy damage to about 50 feet of guardrail on the shoulder of the travel lane, police said.
