Workshop Tackles Healthy Holiday Eating Challenge

BRIDGEPORT — “Healthy Holiday Eating” is the next in the “Staying Healthy with Diabetes” series of free seminars for the public on coping with the disease presented by St Vincent’s Medical Center and Animas Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson Company.

The seminar will take place on Tuesday, December 14, from 6 to 7:30 pm, in the Hawley 2 meeting room in the Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care adjacent to St Vincent’s.

The seminar series covers different aspects of managing diabetes with the goal of living a full and active life. Featured speaker at all the seminars will be clinical manager Molly Kirschner, RD, CDE, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator with Animas. Facilitating the seminars is St. Vincent’s clinical nurse specialist Pat Gantert, MSN, RNC.

Individuals need not attend every seminar in the series.

According to Ms Kirschner, the seminars will cover the challenges and benefits of activity and exercise, strategies for maintaining good blood glucose levels during activity, techniques and tips to assist in counting carbs, meal planning, breaking free from injections, and learning how to stay on a healthy diet during holidays and special occasions.

The goal is to help people with diabetes lower their risk of avoidable medical problems and maintain a healthy and productive life.
