Tamarack Road

Motorist Erind Kalana, 29, of Waterbury was driving a 2009 GMC van westward on Tamarack Road about 11:46 am December 1, when the van slid on the wet roadway and then struck a tree alongside the eastbound road shoulder, police report.

Kalana was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Larceny

Police report they obtained an arrest warrant against Sherman Adams, 51, of Bridgeport and charged him on December 2 with first-degree larceny in connection with an incident that occurred at a house on Merlin’s Lane in late May 2009.

In that incident, Adams allegedly stole a Honda Accord sedan, computers, cash, and a handgun, according to police.

Following his December 2 arraignment on the larceny charge in Danbury Superior Court, Adams was returned to state prison where he in serving a 3½-year sentence on a conviction on unrelated charges.

BMW Vs Deer

About 4:50 pm on November 28, motorist Morgan Rhodes, 40, of Monroe was driving a 2006 BMW coupe southward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, when a deer ran out onto the road, police said. The BMW slowed, but collided with the deer, after which the animal ran off, police said. Rhodes was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Burglary/Larceny

Sometime between 6:30 am and 3:30 pm on November 29, someone burglarized a Great Ring Road area home and stole jewelry from the premises, according to police. The entry may have been made through a back door. Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact the detective unit at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Swamp Road

Police report that sometime between 10:15 am and 1:15 pm on November 30, someone burglarized a Swamp Road home, stealing cash and jewelry. The burglar entered the building by forcing open a first-floor window. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at the police station.

Sandy Hook Crash

Motorist Yabrinda Gurung, 32, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2003 Kia sedan westward on Berkshire Road about 4 pm December 1, stopped for a traffic signal at that street’s intersection with Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Westbound motorist Peter Kelley, 55, of Newfane, Vt., who was driving a 1997 Honda coupe, attempted to stop, but collided with the rear end of the Kia, police said.

There were no injuries. Kelley received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Drug Charge

Police report that they stopped motorist Thomas M. Selleck, 21, of 8 Fox Run Lane at about 9 pm on December 1 near 45 Main Street to investigate.

The investigation resulted in police charging Selleck with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Police released Selleck on a written promise to appear on December 15 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

While on patrol about 10:37 pm on December 2, police stopped motorist Michael Bielawa, 50, of Woodbury on Toddy Hill Road, near Longview Road, to investigate.

The investigation resulted in police charging Bielawa with driving under the influence and with traveling too fast.

After processing the arrest, police released Bielawa on $100 bail for a December 15 court appearance.

Newtown Skate Park

Police report they are investigating the theft of a maroon backpack from the Newtown Skate Park at Dickinson Park. The item was stolen by someone sometime between 4:40 and 5:40 pm on December 2. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station.

Burglary

At about 9 pm on December 1, someone burglarized a property on Alberts Hill Road, in the vicinity of Hearthstone Lane and Valley Field Road North, police said. An investigation is underway and police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them.

Truck Vs Dog

Motorist Gary Costa, 48, of 13 Riverside Road was driving a 1993 GMC commercial pickup truck westward near 98 Church Hill Road about 11:23 am December 4, when a dog ran out onto the street and was struck by the truck, police said.

The dog was then treated for its injuries, police said. The dog’s owner received a violation for allowing a dog to roam, according to police.

Mailbox Vandalism

Police are investigating the vandalism of some curbside residential mailboxes in the Boggs Hill Road area at about 5 am on November 22. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station.

Walnut Tree Hill Road

Motorist James Radcliffe, 17, of Weston was driving a 1999 Volkswagen sedan southward near 190 Walnut Tree Hill Road at about 9 am December 5, when while approaching a bridge, he lost control of the auto and then collided with the bridge, police said.

Police said Radcliffe told them that he swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Radcliffe was not injured. Radcliffe received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, police said.

Sedan Vs Flagpole

About 12:30 pm on December 2, motorist Harvey Stearn, 64, of New Milford, who was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi sedan southward on Main Street, attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, but struck the Main Street flagpole, police said.

Stearn was not injured. Police verbally warned Stearn for making a restricted turn.

Sedan Hits House

Motorist Ethan Johnson, 19, of 167 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 1992 Chrysler sedan westward on Riverside Road about 5:30 am December 4, when the auto went off the roadway and collided with a house at 6 Riverside Road, police said.

No one who was inside the house was injured, police said. Ambulance volunteers transported Johnson to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police said they gave Johnson an infraction for making a restricted turn and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Rollover

Motorist Klaudia Ajdinoski, 29, of Brookfield was driving a 1999 Ford SUV eastward on Boggs Hill Road, near Mt Nebo Road, about 10:43 am December 1, police said.

Police said Ajdinoski told them that she saw an approaching westbound vehicle entering the eastbound lane, so she swerved to the right, but lost control of the Ford, resulting in the vehicle going off the road and landing on its right side.

Ajdinoski was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her making a restricted turn.

Botsford Hill

Police report a two-vehicle collision on a curve near 46 Botsford Hill Road about 5:18 pm November 30.

The accident involved motorist Michael Wright, 42, of 96 Church Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Saturn sedan, and motorist Sally Davis, 40, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai SUV, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Davis and Saturn passenger Jerusha Wright, 11, of 96 Church Hill Road to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Police said they issued Michael Wright an infraction on charges of traveling too fast for conditions and driving an unregistered vehicle.

I-84 Crash

Motorist Emilio Cifarelli, 21, of Hamden was driving a 1990 Acura Legend eastward on Interstate 84, about seven-tenths of a mile east of Exit 9, at about 3:50 am November 21, when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve in the road, state police said.

The Acura hit the median guardrail and then rolled over, state police said. Cifarelli was not injured. He received an infraction for failure to stay in the travel lane.

Highway Accident

Motorist Robin Komornik, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 9, at about 3:22 pm November 29, lost control of the auto, after which it came to rest on the median, state police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Komornik to Danbury Hospital. State police said they are investigating whether another vehicle was involved in the accident.

Moving Violations

Police report that they stopped motorist Charles Stofko, 50, of 18 Chimney Swift Drive at about 9 pm on December 6 on Riverside Road, near Philo Curtis Road, to investigate a motor vehicle violation.

 Police said they charged Stofko with driving with a defective headlamp and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Stofko on a written promise to appear December 21 in Danbury Superior Court.

Illegal Dumping

Sometime between 3 pm on December 3, and 6 pm on December 4, someone dumped some wooden pallets, boxes, and other debris along the residential North Ridge Drive in Hawleyville, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of that dumping to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

Burglary/Larceny

Police report that they are investigating a burglary/larceny that occurred at a home on Huntingtown Road, near its intersection with Maltbie Road, sometime on December 6.

There was no forced entry to the premises, police said. Jewelry and electronic devices were among the items stolen, police added.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact the detective unit at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the hazardous intersection of Hawleyville Road, Currituck Road, and Obtuse Road about 6:40 am November 30.

Motorist Robert Carter, 66, of 51 Obtuse Road, who was driving a 1996 Subaru station wagon, was waiting at a stop sign at the intersection, as motorist Jose Burgos, 50, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2005 Toyota pickup truck, was approaching the intersection, police said.

The Subaru then made a turn in front of the approaching Toyota, resulting in a collision, causing the Toyota to roll over onto its roof, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Burgos to Danbury Hospital to be checked for back pain, police said. Police said they issued Carter an infraction on a stop sign violation.
