Hawley Fourth Grader Collecting ‘Presents For Puppies’

By Eliza Hallabeck

As fourth grade students at Hawley School work on community service projects, Bobby Elston is crossing his fingers.

Bobby has been working to collect “Presents For Puppies,” unwrapped gift donations to help the Newtown Dog Pound, and the deadline for present donations is this Saturday, December 12.

“All donations are greatly appreciated,” said Bobby on Tuesday, December 7, “because everything counts. And I’m sure the dogs will appreciate it.”

Bobby loves dogs, and enjoyed meeting Elvis and Priscilla during a recent visit to the Newtown Dog Pound. Elvis, Bobby said, is a sweet dog who was born with a birth defect that makes him look more ferocious than he is in person. Priscilla was nice, too, according to Bobby. The pound is hoping for a family to accept the two as a pair, because Elvis and Priscilla were found roaming the streets together.

“They are very playful too,” said Bobby, about Elvis and Priscilla.

As Bobby worked on his project, he took photos to document the work he did, and everything will be compiled for a presentation on his project.

Suggested gift donations to the “Presents For Puppies” campaign include doggie treats, dog toys, dish detergent, laundry detergent, and Fromm dog food, which is the only kind of food served to dogs at the Newtown Dog Pound.

Your Healthy Pet South Main Street, Bagel Delight on Church Hill Road, and Edmond Town Hall on Main Street are all accepting donations for Bobby’s present collecting campaign. Bobby’s mom, Tracey Elston, said each place has been extremely helpful for the campaign.

“[Your Healthy Pet] was thrilled and they have been supportive,” said Ms Elston.

Bobby said he has been working on the project since just before Thanksgiving break, when his fourth grade teacher, Michael Wight, announced the community service project.
