Red Bulls 21, Hornets 17: The first matchup of the season was an exciting game for both the fans
and players as the game went into overtime tied at 17. Ethan Aug, 4 points 8 rebounds (4 in the fourth quarter) and Adam Farley 6 points, made clutch baskets in the OT period to seal the victory for the Red Bulls. Ryan Patrick, 10 rebounds (5 in the fourth quarter), 6 steals, Kyle Gaynor 6 steals, and Ben Harrison, 8 rebounds, led defensively for the Red Bulls. Marc Carlson, 6 points, Brian Montoya, 4 points, Kyle Chernoff, 3 points, and Liam Deekin, 5 assists, led the scoring for the Hornets, while Jack Murray played well on defense.
Celtics 28, Scorpions 19: The game was evenly matched late into the fourth quarter until the Celtics got a couple of key buckets to take and maintain control. The Câs were led by Silas âD-Trainâ Decker who dropped in 14, while âDowntownâ Cole Demirjian ran the offensive and contributed 4 assists.
Ian âThe Beastâ Klepacki was all over the court with his great hustle and defense, and had 2 steals and forced 3 jump balls. Ben Terry scored 15 of the Scorpions 19 with 90 percent shooting from the field and 1-2 from the foul line. Greg Brisette and Marc Hall played well for the Scorpions and Alex Street, Doug Carriero and Daniel Badiola played well defensively.
 Huskies 27, Black Knights 22: The Huskies came back from an early deficit to defeat the Black Knights. Andrew Deluca shined for the Huskies scoring 21 of his teamâs 27 points with David Daria and Rich Mariani also playing well for the Huskies. Tom Fitzgerald and David Daria were key rebounders. Christian Adam was the top playmaker for the Huskies, while Brendan OâHara played a tenacious defense. Dylan Champagne played outstanding basketball earning him the teamâs offensive player of the game with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Cameron Champagne also shined with 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals for the Knights. Kent Mullen duplicated Cameronâs effort with 4 points of his own and also with 4 rebounds and 2 steals. The Black Knights defensive player of the game, Thomas Coppinger was all over the court forcing a half dozen defensive jump balls while adding 3 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Brooks Petershack had 2 rebounds and AJ Solaris had 2 steals for the Knights.
 Tornadoes 22, Nighthawks 18: Adam Wolff led a group team effort to overcome a late surge by the Nighthawks. Wolf had 6 points and Eugene Citrano, Jake Pirone and Tristen Crone each had 4. Tom Skeljia 10 points and Dylan Sock 6 led the Nighthawks.
Dynamite 34, Heat 22: The Heat played a solid game but came up short against a strong effort by Team Dynamite. The Heat were led by Aidan Fordâs 10 points and Jamie Hobarâs 4 points. Matt Sadowski played great under the boards, while Ryan Mailloux and Liam Jones were all over the court. John Finnegan (10 points) and Matt Principi (8 points) played well offensively for team Dynamite. Robert Murray had 6 points from the field and played great defense, as did Avinash Bhaya and Max Goldstein. Both teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout the game.
Grade 6
The Golden Ringers 38, The Bulldogs 27: The Golden Ringers were led on offense by Henry Primavera with 11 points, Austin De Sousa with 8 points, and Matt Kugler with 6 points. Thomas Adessi and Alex Hess led the way on defense with many clutch stops forcing key turnovers. All around good play from every member of the Ringers in their first victory of the season. The Bulldogs were led on offense by the quick hands of Matthew Bucci with 10 points, Hunter Cobb covered the floor with 8 points, William LeMay made key shots under the boards for 4 points and Adam Beckett elbowed with another 4 points. The defense was strong with Brandon Pavlicek pounding the boards and Andrew Janco and Thomas Stanczyk forcing turnovers when needed. The bulldogs ran out of time in a close game but will be back next week with a bone to pick.
The Hershey Kisses 28, The Grasshoppers 19: The Hershey Kisses came out strong in the second half to win 28-19. They were led by Will Huegiâs 14 points and 6 steals, Steven Moccioâs outstanding all around floor game of 2 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks, and Gregg Trimarchiâs 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 ferocious blocked shot. Those performances, along with a great team defensive effort that was spearheaded by Tiernan Keane and Phillip Coffey, resulted in a victory. The sixth grade Grasshoppers lost their opening game 28-19 playing a man short as Patrick Godino was on the DL for the opener. Owen McInerney played exceptionally well with a double-double, scoring 11 points and snagging 11 rebounds, earning him the teamâs offensive player of the game. Nick Venezia led the âHoppers with 5 assists, while Jack Riley and Matt Kretz scored 4 points each to aid in the offensive effort. Defensive player of the game Ryan Norton had 5 rebounds and 2 steals while also scoring 2 points. Ryan Brello, although not reaching the scorerâs table, did gather in a pair rebounds. The Grasshoppers hope to swarm together to plague next weekâs opponent in search of their first win of the young season.
The Red Storm 31, The Blue Ninjas 23: In an exciting back and forth game with the Blue Ninja, the Red Storm pulled out a victory. Jack Palermo led the team in scoring with 10 points. Thomas Leuci did a great job of handling the ball and contributed 5 assists. Mathew Frazzetta played well under the boards and had 5 rebounds. Finally, Jacob Meenan was a major force on defense with 2 steals. Despite a great defensive effort, the Blue Ninjas came up short against the Red Storm. Leading the team on defense was R.H Clark with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Overall, the Ninjas finished with 29 team rebounds and 12 team steals, setting the stage for a great season ahead. Contributing to the tough D was Bryan Morrissey, Matt Guinee, Nick Lametto and Matt Fuchs. On the offensive side of the ball Chad Azzarito and Peter Clifford led the team with 6 points each. David Usher sank a couple of nice free throws, while Tyler LaCroce and Matt Kranickas made some key assists to help keep the game close.
Garyâs Troops 34, The Red Storm 27: The offense was led by a strong showing from Jack Phelps, Dylan Kretz, Jacob Steinbrey, and Robert Hutchins. The defense was led by an aggressive Cameron Mitchell, Taylor Koonz and River Low. The Red Storm were led by 12 points from Tommy Kitzmiller and stellar defense by Colin Villamana, who had 4 steals. Joe Palanzo played big under the glass with 2 blocks and 7 rebounds. Tim Jaeger and Bryan Silk led the defensive efforts by shutting down the scoring with their hustle.
Thunder 27, The Untouchables 20: The Thunderâs offense was led by Graham Dowd pouring in 12 points with four assists, and Ryan Marusi and Tim Cervera tossing in 5 apiece and hauling down a combined 8 rebounds. The defense was anchored by the hustle of Paul Whitaker, who nabbed 4 steals. The Untouchablesâ offense played with a lot of energy led by Jordan Klien with 6 points and Nick Lansingâs 4 assists. The defense playing tough throughout the entire game led by Austin Kasbarian and Chris Anesi, who pounded the boards for 8 rebounds.
Grade 7
Travel A 53, Redding 30: Andrew Svanda, Matt Gerics, and Jared Pearson led the scoring with 8 points each. Jamie Cochran controlled the offense driving to the basket with 7 points in the first half. Mason Mellilo, Nick Samuelsom and Ryan Shaw controlled the boards with 19 rebounds. Devin Luzietti played outstanding defense and scored 6 points on offense.
Travel A 45, Danbury 37: This was a fast-paced game. Matt Gerics led the team in scoring 16 points. Mason Mellilo scored 7 and Matt Elias hit two 3 pointers in the second half to hold off last yearâs champions from Danbury. Ryan Shaw owned the boards with 12 rebounds; Nick Samuelson, Andrew Svanda, Jared Pearson, and Declan Sullivan had a combined 27 rebounds.
Gold 32, Greenwich 26: Newtown won the season opener in a close contest. Ten different players scored for Gold, led by Dillon Palumbo with 10 points and Matt Maturo with 6. Michael Doyle and Kieran Lynch controlled the offense from the point, while Tim VanderHave and Geoff Santore played aggressive defense.
Gold 29, Darien 34: In a physical battle, Gold held Darien scoreless for the last 5 minutes of the game, but could not close the gap. Dillon Palumbo scored 8 points and Ethan Carpenter 5. Palumbo, Joe Duero (4 points), and James Frazzetta were the leading rebounders with 4 apiece. James Accousti added 4 points and a couple of steals. Colin Patrick had a strong defensive game.
Juniors (grades 7â8)
Patriots 44, Thunder 30: For the Patriots, Bryce Decker led the scoring with 19 points. Joe Huole had 7 assists, Matt St Jean had 2 steals and James Barry had 6 rebounds, while Alex Mangold closed out the game with 3 three-pointers. For the Thunder, Sam Czel had 8 points, Jaret DeVillis 5 assists, and Albert Dean and Zach Loruus played good defense.
Wolverines 33, Walri 28: For the Wolverines Bobby Archiere started the season big with 26 points, while Joey Carino and Forrest Speers led the defense. For the Walri, Logan Walsh led the way with 14 points. Colin Reilly and Tommy Rahr paced the defense.
Knicks 33, Wolfpack 33: Shane Quimby paced the Knicks with 11 points. Andrew King had 7 rebounds, while Dan Romeo and Andrew Petershack locked up the defense. For the Wolfpack, Jake Oliger led the offense with 12 points; the defense was led by Joe Santella, Graham Hubbert, and Callahan Brock.
Raptors 48, Bearcats 30: For the Raptors, Bobby Lydon and Jason Ferrari combined for 21 points while Nick Bourgeois and Pete Manfredonia locked down the defense. For the Bearcats, Nick Roche had 10 points, Ryan Sullivan and Robbie Schreiber combined for 14 points. The defense was led by Michael Unschuld and Bobby Silver.
Magic 30, Vipers 22: Deagan Beauchemin and Keaton McCleary combined for 18 points for the Magic. Jared Tannenbaum, Mason Galanis, and Lucas LaDestro played hard defense. For the Vipers, Stephen Grasso led the way with 7 points, while Thomas Gavel, Colton Maroney, and Andy DeWolfe played strong defense.
Celics 26, Razorbacks 19: Eric Cascone and Will Swain combined for 14 points for the Celtics, while Nick Eisele and Adam Israel played great defense. For the Razorbacks, Harry Depuy led the way with 8 points and the defense was led by Joe Daccache.
Bricklayers 46, Bulldogs 30: For the Bricklayers, Christian Thonasoulis had 13 points, while Conner Miller, Bubba Condon, and Connor Lemay played tight defense. For the Bulldogs, Sam Duffy and Jake Lambert combined for 16 points, while Jon Sherman, Payton Manning, and Collin Morrissey played good defense.
Wildcats 42, Huskies 37: Ryan Szalay led the way for the Wildcats with 12 points. Patrick Berger had 6 assists and Sawyer Conrad and Clay Gattey played tough defense. For the Huskies, Charlie Huegi led the offense with 14 points, while the defense was paced by Jimmy Widman and Austin LeBlanc.
