CONSERVATORS BEGIN TO REMOVE WYETH MURAL FROM DELAWARE BANK

AVV 12-5 #721

WILMINGTON, DEL. (AP) — Conservators are scheduled to begin removing a huge mural from a Wilmington bank building.

The 60-foot mural by Pennsylvania artist N.C. Wyeth has graced the lobby at the WSFS building on North Market Street for 75 years. The mural must be removed so the building can be remodeled by its new owner.

WSFS is choosing a new owner for the mural and may have a decision later this month.

The mural is called “Apotheosis of the Family’’ and was commissioned by the bank in 1929. Safely removing it will be a painstaking process that could take more than three months.
