âNewtown 300â Airs On
Thursdays And Saturdays
The cable television production of Newtown 300, which has been designed to keep Newtowners abreast of events throughout the tercentennial year, premiers this week. The programs are scheduled to air Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm and Saturdays at 4:30 pm.
The first programs to air were taped in November.
âWe are trying to interview people involved in the tercentennial events in plenty of time for our viewers and residents to learn about the events and make plans to attend,â said publicist Joanne Greco Rochman, who hosts the cablevision show.
The first program features Town Historian Dan Cruson, chairman of the Newtown Tercentennial Committee, and Mae Schmidle, vice-chairman, who give an overview of the tercentennial year and the major events.
A program on the upcoming interfaith events features Father Bob Weiss of St Rose Church and the Rev Gregory J. Wismar, pastor of Christ the King Lutheran Church. The two religious leaders address some of the interfaith events that will take place as well as show historic relics, records books, and old photographs from their church histories.
The Rev Steven P. Gordon of Newtown Congregational Church and parishioner Gordon Williams will appear in a later program. Newtown Congregational Church was the first church in Newtown.
Another program spotlighted the fundraisers for the Tercentennial Ball, set for February 5, while another show features Bob Tendler and Dr Richard Coopersmith, who will be the auctioneers at the ball.
The most recent taping features Newtown artists Ruth Newquist and Betty Christensen, whose works are included in the Tercentennial Calendar.
Ms Rochman said the talents and skills of local residents make the programs possible. The crew consists of Pierre Rochman, Dick Sturdevant, John Kopins, Stan Polcyn, Charles Speidel, Lois Kuhlman, Patti Skok, Nicole Shiulli, and Greg VanAntwerp.
