Minnie P. Totten, 77, widow of Nicholas P. Totten, of Newtown died December 5 in the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worchester, Mass., surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Philmont, N.Y., on July 27, 1927, a daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Ritchie) Popisil. She resided in Newtown most of her life and will be remembered for her 20 years of service as the switchboard operator for the Town of Newtown and for years as the switchboard operator at Fairfield Hills Hospital.
Minnie was a kind-hearted, loving, and caring woman devoted to mothering her only son, Robert Lincoln Totten and his wife Donna (Bernard) Totten of Coventry, who survive her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her unselfish love and compassion will live on forever through her impact on her family.
In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Minnie (also known as Nanny) will be missed by Janet Totten and three grandchildren, Darren Totten and his wife Cordella of North Carolina, Shawn Totten and his wife Katie of Pomfret, and Seth Totten and his partner Rod Montero of Manchester. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Emily, Robby, Adam, and Audrey Totten as well as other extended family members and friends.
Funeral services were held December 8 in the Newtown Congregational Church. Interment was in Newtown Village Cemetery next to her late husband.
Minnieâs love of all living things is a gift that she passed on to her family. In particular, her love of cats makes the family request that memorial donations be made to PAWS, 504 Main Street, Norwalk CT 06851.
Arrangements were by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
