Independent Film Series To Continue At The Library
Independent Film Series To Continue At The Library
On Tuesday, December 14, at 7:30 pm, C.H. Booth Library will continue its series of screening award-winning independent films. This monthâs feature will be Deepa Mehtaâs film, The Republic of Love.
Based on the novel by the Pulitzer prize-winning author Carol Shields, Republic of Love is a romantic comedy about the barriers facing lovers in the 21st Century. Tom is a charismatic late-night radio talk show host whose unconventional upbringing has made him a little too quick to fall in love. Fay is an academic whose expectations are impossibly high as a result of the living perfection that is her parentsâ marriage.
The characters connect in a maze of malls, condos and family homes, underpinning the idea that âgeography is destiny âand that each of us has our own ârepublicâ where lives intersect.
This film is not subject to rating by the MPAA. It is not recommended for ages under 17 without parental permission. The film is in English and has a running time of 96 minutes.
Screenings are in the Olga Knoepke Memorial Meeting Room at Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown. Call 426-4533 for additional information.
The next two features planned are The Man of The Year, in Portuguese with English subtitles, on January 25, and Light of My Eyes, in Italian with English subtitles, on February 22.
