From Bloomsbury To Bethlehem: Art At Woodbury Library

WOODBURY — For the month of December, Woodbury Public Library will host the modernistic acrylic paintings of Ruth Cargill, a resident of Bethlehem.

Mrs Cargill’s art was first influenced by her youth spent in Bloomsbury, London, while living in the shadow of the British Museum. Early in her career, she tried to copy the fine lines of the British floral art on display in the British Museum.

African designs also intrigued her, as seen in the costumes and props of her father, the African showman Prince Zulamkah. Add the influence of American culture for the last 20 years and Mrs Cargill’s modernistic floral art has evolved.

This year Ms Cargill has had successful shows in West Hartford, Ridgefield, Glastonbury, and Nassau County Museum of Art on Long Island.

“Bloomsbury to Bethlehem” will be in the gallery at Woodbury Public Library, 269 Main Street South, during regular museum hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 9 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.

For further information, contact Woodbury Public Library at 203-263-3502.
