Hubert “Hubie” Armstrong Davis II, 64, of Sandy Hook died December 5 in Danbury. He was born in Bridgeport, July 18, 1949, to Emma and Hubert Davis.

He went to Danbury High, participating in music and theater productions, including his role as Henry Higgins in the 1965 production of My Fair Lady. After graduating in 1967, Mr Davis studied design at Silvermine College and proved himself a talented designer, musician, and singer.

A classically trained musician, he performed as the youngest lead cellist in the Danbury Symphony Orchestra, before he learned to play the guitar and left classical music for rock and roll. As a gifted lyricist, he wrote jingles for CBS in New York and won numerous songwriting awards. At 16, he soloed at The Bitter End in NYC, and went on to form many bands, performing at venues all along the Eastern seaboard, eventually contracting with Casablanca Records to cut an album with his band, The Edge.

Remembered as a precocious adolescent, Mr Davis had many adventures, including his infamous stint as a stowaway on the SS United States at the age of 16. He was legendary for his storytelling, fearlessness, and ability to make people laugh and feel loved.

Later in life, Mr Davis channeled his creative energies into master carpentry, starting HD Woodworks, a woodworking and construction business. He created handcrafted, custom wood furniture for clients worldwide. Captivated by puzzles and riddles of all kinds, he applied that fascination to home renovation and construction, transforming homes into castles with his artistry and ingenuity.

He was kind and generous, devoted to family, and left a lasting impression on all who met him. Those he knew will miss him beyond measure.

His wife, Gisele Davis; daughter Xe Sands Davis and son Morgan Laurent Davis; granddaughter Maevyn Davis-Rackerby; sister Sandra Flood; brother Jeffrey Davis; and three nieces survive Mr Davis. His parents preceded him in death.

A memorial service will take place at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 247 New Milford Turnpike, Marble Dale, Conn., Friday December 13, at 11 am, with the Reverend Dr Max A. Meyers officiating. There are no calling hours. A reception will follow at the church hall.
