‘Unity And Diversity’ Programs Preview

What do you know about your neighbors’ faith community? Do have an appreciation for their beliefs, liturgies, sacramental rites, music, history or their interest in community action, ecumenism and interfaith dialogue? Do you know some of their heroes and inspired leaders?

Unity and Diversity is a cable television program that features leaders and representatives of various religious communities in the local area, and offers an opportunity to learn about one another in a nonthreatening way. It can be viewed on Mondays at noon and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm on Charter Communications channel 21.

Upcoming programs will include the following highlights and interview subjects: December 12 and 14, the Reverends Ann and Michael Coburn, former rectors, St James Episcopal Church, Danbury; December 19 and 21, the Reverend Timothy Crowley, pastor, Central Christian Church of Christ’s Disciples, Danbury; and December 26 and 28, “A Christian Unity Celebration,” held at St Gregory Church of Danbury.

Also, January 2 and 4, Rabbi Shaul Praver, Congregation Adath Israel, Newtown; January 9 and 11, Pastor Allen German, St Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury; January 16 and 18, the Reverend Bobby Gardiner, the Victory Christian Center, Danbury; January 23 and 25, Father Angelo Arrando, St Gregory Catholic Church, Danbury; and January 30 and February 1, The Unitarian-Universalist Society of Western Connecticut.

The Unity and Diversity program producer and host is the Reverend Leo McIlrath, coordinator of Corpus Christi, an Ecumenical Catholic Faith Community and chaplain to the Lutheran Home of Southbury. He is willing to come to your church, synagogue, mosque, or temple to share what it means to be ecumenical or a member of an interfaith council. He can be reached at 203-270-0581.
