Who Came To Help
To the Editor:
We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the firefighters who fought the fire which caused damage to our house on the evening of November 15. The quick and professional response from Newtown Hook & Ladder, Sandy Hook, Botsford, Hawleyville, and Dodgingtown Fire Companies and companies from neighboring towns prevented our house from burning down.
Under the command of Fire Chief Jason Rivera the firefighters were able to get the fire under control and stop the fire from spreading to the other side of the house. We feel very fortunate to have volunteer firefighters who are so well trained to have dealt with a fire of such a great magnitude and to prevent the seemingly inevitable loss of our home. We extend a warm thank you to Fire Marshals Bill Halstead and Richard Frampton who were responsible for the investigation and the emergency management of the situation. We thank Nancy from the fire marshalâs office who has been caring and efficient throughout this time.
It is unfortunate that our tenant, Eileen Preston and her two sons, Simon and Andrew, were displaced and lost many of their possessions due to the extensive damage on her side of the house. We wish them well in their new home. We are very grateful that no one was injured and that the fire occurred at an hour when everyone was awake. We are sad for Delores Miller and her two sons, Bob and John, that the barn was not able to be saved.
We also want to thank our neighbors and friends who have been so generous in their kindness and concern. It is very appreciated!
With Gratitude,
Bernadette and Bryan McSweeney and Family
