Soccer Success At NHS
Newtown High Schoolâs girlsâ soccer team had 15 of 22 players achieve high honors during the first quarter of the school year. These athletes were all honored as members of the South-West Conference All-Academic Team: Seniors Nicole Davis and Hannah Maret; juniors Lydia Beiter, Emily Brisson, Amy Martin, Julia Trudell, and Caitlin Yakush; sophomores Lindsey Jagoe, Tess Murray, and Anna Northrop; and freshmen Jessica Keller, Brenna Kelly, Sarah Lynch, Alyssa Ruefenacht, and Julia Schoeni.
 Senior Madeline Keane played in the Connecticut Girlsâ Soccer Coaches Association (CGSCA) Senior Bowl last Saturday. Keane and Martin were selected to the All State Team. Keane and Martin made first team All SWC, and juniors Bridget Power and Melissa Buccino, along with senior Cassie Fallon were selected to second team All SWC. Yakush, the teamâs goalkeeper, made All SWC honorable mention. Fallon was selected for the Xara/CGSCA Coachâs Award by Head Coach Marc Kenney.
Newtown is fourth in the final CGSCA Class LL/L state ranking after finishing the season 17-3-4, and appearing in the SWC tourney finals and CIAC Class LL state tournament semifinals.
