Lessons And Carols In Washington

WASHINGTON — St John’s Episcopal Church, 78 Green Hill Road (Route 47), will offer a candlelit service of Advent Lessons and Carols on Sunday, December 18, at 5 pm. The Choir of St John’s will be directed by the Reverend Alan Murchie, the church’s newly appointed organist and choirmaster.

The service includes “People, Look East” by Malcolm Archer, “Angelus ad virginem” by Andrew Carter, “Never weather-beaten sail” by Thomas Campion, “I sing of a maiden” by Patrick Hadley, “Jesus Christ, the apple tree” by Elizabeth Poston, “The Matin Responsory” by Palestrina, and “This is the truth sent from above” and “Now is the time,” both arranged by Rev Murchie.

The public is welcome to join the choir and parishioners of St John’s together with the Right Reverend Laura J. Ahrens, Bishop Suffragan of Connecticut; the Reverend Susan J. McCone, rector; and other clergy of the Litchfield Deanery for a celebration of the ancient and beautiful service of  Advent Lessons and Carols.
