Robert Lawrence Barnum
Robert Lawrence Barnum, 67, a resident of Fairfield for more than 40 years, beloved husband of Suzanne Vargo Barnum, died December 5. Born and raised in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Norman and Mary Monahan Barnum.
In addition to his devoted wife, survivors include a sister, Kathy Favreau, and her husband Guy, of Sandy Hook; brothers Norman F. Barnum, and his wife Pam, of Bridgeport and William D. Barnum of Beacon Falls; daughters Melissa “Missy” Guccione, and her husband John, of Orange and Jennifer Barnum of Naugatuck; his cherished grandson Connor Robert Guccione; sisters-in-law Kathleen Barnum and Lillian Barnum; as well as many nieces and nephews. His brother, Dennis, and a sister-in-law, Jane Barnum, predeceased him.
Mr Barnum was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Navy. He worked as a computer specialist for the West Haven Veterans Hospital for 25 years.
He was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a fan of the New York Mets and Jets, and enjoyed watching UConn Women’s Basketball. He especially loved playing cards with his family and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino.
Mr Barnum will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will take place Monday, December 8, from 4 to 8 pm, in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, December 9, at 10:15 am, in the funeral home, and at 11 am, in Holy Family Church, Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery with full Military Honors.
