STAMFORD â Pegasus Therapeutic Riding has kicked off its annual fundraising effort and is once again looking to the public for help.
Thanks to a $2.1 million anonymous donation, Pegasus is finally realizing a 20-year dream of acquiring a permanent home â a 20-acre farm in Brewster, New York. This will further increase efficiency in its use of available resources and increase the opportunities for riders.
But Pegasus has experienced a 22% increase in riders (from 196 to 240) and a 33% increase in the number of rides provided (2,411 to 3,212) and needs to hire more instructors and physical therapists to handle the increases.
It costs about $1 million a year to run Pegasus programs and only 9% comes from rider fees. Donations will help â (1) provide protective head gear and other equipment for Pegasus riders; (2) pay horse and barn rental fees; (3) pay for veterinary, farrier and general expenses for Pegasus horses and ponies; (4) acquire equipment for horses and ponies like saddles, bridles, halters and surcingles; (5) compensate Pegasus staff; and (6) provide additional financial aid for Pegasus riders in need.
For the 2005-06 year, Pegasus income was $930,000 with 86% of that acquired through fundraising. If you would like to help Pegasus continue its services for disabled riders, write to Pegasus, 45 Church Street, Suite 205, Stamford, CT, 06906. Or call 203-356-9504, ext. 101.
