Occupation: I work in the garden center at Holmes Fine Gardens, and I manage the childrenâs programs there. That includes an after-school program weâre working on where kids will do gardening and landscaping and science experiments, and fun stuff like that. I do the story hours at Holmes in good weather and at the local nursery and elementary schools during the winter. There are a lot of good folk tales that are garden oriented. Iâm also a karate instructor at United Studios of Self-Defense on Church Hill Road in Newtown.
Family: My mom and dad, who live in Newtown. I have two sisters and a brother, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, three beautiful nieces, and one more niece on the way. Weâre all extremely close. Iâm not married, but I have wonderful roommates.
Pets: I have a kitten. His name is Tiger, but we call him Tigs. He is so tiny. We found him just five weeks ago when he was only three weeks old. My two golden retrievers, Toby and Paddy, and my other cat, Mau-Mau, live at my momâs.
How long have you been in Newtown? I have worked at Holmes since May of 2005. I lived in Newtown with my parents for a little while, but now I live in Shelton.
What do you like to do in your free time? I spend a lot of time at the karate school. I knit, I paint, I sing, I read. I have a bookcase full of books I want to read. I do a lot of things. I never sit still.
Do you have a favorite book? Right now Iâm reading A Good Yarn by Debbie Macomber. Because I knit, I recognize the stitches when she talks about them in the book. I listen to books on tape, too. I just listened to something by Tom Hopkins and another by Tony Robbins. They are both motivational speakers.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? There are a bunch of places, but Iâd have to say Newport is my favorite. My parents go there almost every year, so Iâve been there many times. But the most fun time was when we took my niece there a couple of years ago.
What is the best thing about Newtown? I love the small town feel that is has, even though it is a big town. I come from Stamford and there, if you smile and say hello they look at you funny. But around here, thatâs not the case.
If you could spend a day with anyone, who would it be? Probably one of my grandfathers. Both died before I was born. I hear a lot of stories about them and I would love to meet them.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Happiness comes from within. Thereâs nothing in this world that will make you happy if you donât have the predisposition to be happy. Thatâs something Iâve learned in the last couple of years.
What do you most cherish? My family. Thereâs nothing like them. My family is filled with a bunch of incredibly strong people. Theyâre very cool people.
