Cheerleaders Heading To Florida
Cheerleaders Heading To Florida
To the Editor:
On Thanksgiving weekend the Newtown AYC sixth grade cheerleading team won first place in the New England Regional cheerleading competition. The result is a trip to Tampa, Fla., to compete for the National title on December 9. The girls had less than two weeks to prepare, and to raise money to help cover the costs. They spent a great deal of their time selling homemade scarves and asking for donations. Due to the generosity of the people of Newtown, their efforts resulted in collections in excess of $3,000.
We would like to thank everyone who supported the girls through their generous donations. Thanks also go to Stop & Shop, Dunkinâ Donuts, Genesis Hair Studio, My Place, Newtown Nail Spa, the Mobil Station on Church Hill Road, Newtown Hardware, the Booth Library, Newtown Power Equipment, Apex Glass, Sue Marchinek, Radio Shack, and Francoâs Pizza for their donations and for allowing the girls to use their locations for their fundraising activities. You have all helped to turn their dreams of a trip to the National Competition into a reality.
