2006 Commemorative Rochambeau Pewter Ornament Available For Collecting & Holiday Gift-Giving
SOUTHBURY â Just in time for the holiday season Southbury Historical Society has unveiled its commemorative 2006 pewter ornament featuring the 1781 March of General Rochambeau.
The annual work of art, produced locally at Woodbury Pewter, is a major fundraiser for the Southbury Historical Society. Ornaments are $8 and can be purchased at Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main Street South; H.H. Stone and Sons Hardware, 168 Main Street South (next to Southbury Food Center); and Southbury Historical Society Museum, on Route 172 in South Britain.
This yearâs ornament, designed by Southbury resident and graphic artist Laurel Casazza, is a special tribute to the Rochambeau march of 1781. Ms Casazza, a graduate of Cooper Union in New York City, who also recently retired from The Newtown Bee where she worked as a graphic artist, has designed the last ten ornament keepsakes for the historical society.
The purpose of Southbury Historical Society is to promote the historic, artistic and literary preservation interests and heritage of the State of Connecticut â especially the Southbury area â through lectures, tours, exhibits, educational programs, and social events which attract participation by all sectors of the community, with special attention to youth and student programs.
The historical society manages the Old Town Hall Museum in South Britain, which is open Wednesday from 10 am to noon and Sunday from noon to 4 pm. For more information about the society call 264-8825.
