To the Editor:

Women Involved in Newtown would like to thank the Newtown community for their incredible generosity in supporting our Thanksgiving Basket Program. The week before Thanksgiving, 72 families received food, toiletries, and paper goods to last them throughout the holiday season. All of this was provided by local individuals, families, businesses, and schools.

We are particularly grateful to the Lions Club for its support, as well as the Fraser Woods School, the Reed School, Newtown Middle School, Sandy Hook School, and Middle Gate School, who went way above the call in providing food and other items. We are also so grateful for the many volunteers who helped us throughout the day to sort and organize items for the families. The Fusion Club from NHS and many local students provided helpful hands that made the day go more efficiently than it ever has.

None of us would have made it through that busy day without the meals provided by Eunice at Bagel Delight and My Place. Thank you for keeping us fueled and working for this worthy cause.

Our town is a very special place; Newtowners always seem ready to step up and lend a hand when needed. Thank you to all who helped out with this important program.
